The conference was organised by Rockefeller Foundation of New York held at Italy from August 20 to 24, said SRM University Vice-Chancellor Dr Jamshed Bharucha at a programme here on Monday.

SRM University – AP, Amaravati, a research university, participated in the 4-day working conference “Architecting the Future Global University” that was recognized by the New York-based Rockefeller Foundation.

It tackled a two-fold concern for educational institutions worldwide –
1. quality education remains inaccessible to millions of students.
2. branded residential institution model does not scale to global demand.

The much awaited “Mukhyamantri Yuva Nestam” (Chief Minister’s youth friendly scheme) was launched on 14th September, 2018 at Hon’ble CM Chandrababu Naidu’s “Prajavedika” near his residence in Amravati, AP.

Under this ‘Unemployment Allowance Pension Scheme.’, monthly financial assistance is provided to eligible unemployed youth across the state.

Ennovab’s Pitch Day 101

September 8, 2018, Ennovab: Entrepreneurial innovation lab hosted the first ever Pitch Day on the campus of SRM University Amaravati. Founded by the alumni of Sutardja Centre of Entrepreneurship and Technology, University of California Berkeley (Tuhin Sarkar, Vatsal Rathod, Pushya Mitra and Aayusi Biswas), Ennovab focuses on mentoring aspiring student entrepreneurs.

September 28-30, 2018, Aditya Engineering College, Rajahmundry: Gaming judges Koushik Bhargav from SRM CSE and Joel Partanen of KAMK picked a Gurgaon team’s space themed game for the top prize at the first ever ‘Indian Game Summit Hackathon’ in India. The event was organised by the KAMK University Finland and APSSDC.

Dr. Kiran Seth, distinguished founder of SPIC MACAY (The Society for Promoting Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth) and Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi spoke to SRM AP students on the guiding philosophy behind his organisation and the broader role it plays in shaping minds. “What we want to do,” he said, “is to take you on a journey to help you become whatever you want to be – but much, much better.”

Nicholas Dirks, former Chancellor of UC Berkeley and Honorary Pro Chancellor, SRM AP addressed faculty and students on the true meaning of liberal arts pointing out that many of the top corporate leaders attended liberal arts institutions enabling them to think across disciplines and to communicate effectively. “SLABS creates the basis for all students to have a kind of interdisciplinary education and faculty to have a community of scholars to build larger research programs.”

The October 2018 visit by faculty from UC Berkeley’s Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship (SCET) and Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation put the focus on four industry pillars of entrepreneurship and technology, design and innovation. The UC Berkeley team took a campus tour and interacted with the SRM AP engineering faculty highlighting the importance of entrepreneurship/design principles in engineering education. In short, design skills to create new successful products and business skills to bring them to market.
