  • SRM University, AP-Amaravati and IIT Chicago sign MoU for academic collaboration January 17, 2018

    SRM University, Andhra Pradesh and Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago (IITC) have signed an MoU to further academic collaboration in engineering and the sciences. The MoUs were exchanged by President, SRM AP Dr P. Sathyanaranyanan and Vice President for Enrolment, IITC Dr Michael R.Gosz in Chennai recently.

    IITC, which has been engaging with SRM IST (formerly SRM University) on a range of student friendly programmes, has pledged to deepen the relationship with the new campus at Amravati. “SRM has been a valued partner, and together we have been able to innovate new pathways in student mobility, that enhance value and bring benefit to the students, combining the best of two leading institutions, SRM and IITC”, said Dr Gosz.

    New programmes that the two sides agreed to consider in the new phase of engagement , include students taking part in IITC’s summer programme, and return visit to SRM for leadership programmes specially customised to deliver in cross-functional areas, combining subject matter , Indian culture and heritage and business strategies.

    The two sides also focussed on staff development, where SRM faculty will engage with their counterparts and learn contemporary pedagogy and improve subject matter competence. Building on research collaboration will be a focus area.” We invite IITC to work closely with us on setting up Centres of Excellence, where some of the major challenges facing society today can be explored and solutions found in a spirit of true collaboration”, said Dr P. Sathyanarayanan, President, SRM Andhra Pradesh. He also invited IITC to partner with the new university in evolving pathways for student’s mobility at the Masters and MTech level. The pathways would enable students to complete their graduate studies at IITC, providing them yet another study option through a trans-global exchange route.

    IITC is a private institution with an illustrious legacy, founded in 1890. It has a total undergraduate enrolment of 2,944, its setting is urban, and has a sprawling campus of 120 acres. It is highly ranked, at 103 in the 2018 edition of Best Colleges in National Universities. It offers a wide range of engineering degree programs, including aerospace engineering, biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering, as well as a range of degrees in architecture and the sciences.

  • Preparing the students for 21st Century System Design January 17, 2018

    Mr. Bhavesh Mistry from National Instruments addressed the students of SRM Andhra Pradesh about the challenges of the 21st century design, and various tools available for a better hands-on learning experience. The speaker addressed the audience about the differences seen in the various top engineering schools all over the world improved their learning experience with the help of National Instruments’ collaborating with them. He encouraged the students to use practical approach more than the theoretical learning.

  • A Talk on ‘Expansive Soils’ January 17, 2018

    On the evening of 9th January, 2018 a seminar was held on the topic of Expansive Soils-Problems, practice and solutions in SRM Amaravati. The talk was delivered by a faculty member, Dr. Arif Ali Baig Moghal. His speech began with the introduction of Expansive Soil, its functions and applications. The lecture described the damages from expansive soils during and after making building, roads and other constructional works, briefly explaining loading duration effects and compressibility characteristics.

  • Professor Bertil Andersson appointed as the Honorary Pro Chancellor of SRM University, AP – Amaravati January 16, 2018

    Professor Bertil Andersson, President Emeritus of Nanyang Technological University has been appointed as the Honorary Pro Chancellor of SRM University, Andhra Pradesh

    He served as NTU’s third President from July 2011 until December 2017, after being the university’s Provost from 2007.

    Prof Bertil Andersson is a world-renowned plant biochemist from Sweden with a longstanding association with the Nobel Foundation that includes chairing its chemistry committee, he has pioneered research on the artificial leaf, a promising area of sustainable energy research that uses sunlight to produce clean, low-cost sources of energy. Prof Andersson has authored more than 300 papers in basic photosynthesis covering topics from photosystem structure to biological membranes and light stress in plants, with more than 14,000 citations.

  • Students of SRM University to attend GLOBE programme at UC Berkeley January 13, 2018

    Five students of SRM University, AP Amaravati, will be attending the Global Learning & Outreach from Berkeley Engineering (GLOBE) programme at University of California, Berkeley.

    The SRM Amaravati has collaborated with the University of California Berkeley (UC Berkeley) under its GLOBE visiting student program, to offer semester abroad courses.

    The programme will commence in January 2018 to May 2018.

    At the spring 2018 session, a team of five students from SRM Amaravati including Aayushi Biswas, Tuhin Sarkar, Abhirami Ravishankar, Vatsal Rathod and Pushva Mitra will be taking up courses worth 12 – 15 credits from Sutardja Center of Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) and The Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation within UC Berkeley.

  • Mahatma Gandhi University of Kottayam clinches championship January 12, 2018

    Visakhapatnam: Mahatma Gandhi University (Kottayam) clinched the South-Zone Inter-University Cricket Trophy for Men (2018) by defeating SRM University (Chennai) by 40 runs in the finals which were held at the Raghu College Ground in the city on Friday.

    After a super knock from Anand Krishna’s 64 and Abdul Baziri’s 39, Sijomin Joseph’s 28 in 20 balls laid the foundation for MG University’s decent total of 212 in 40 overs.

    Warangal: It will be NIT, Warangal versus SRM University in the final of the 16th SR Champions Trophy South Indian inter-engineering Collegiate T-20 cricket tournament. In the semifinals on Monday, NIT coasted away to an eight-wicket win over hosts SR Engineering College, Warangal while SRM University routed CBIT, Hyderabad by eight wickets. The finals will be played on Tuesday at SR Engineering College.
