  • Liza Hazarika to usher in the Powers of Mind September 7, 2021

    Ms Liza Hazarika is joining the Freshmen Orientation Programme-2021 on September 08, 2021, at 9.30 am to deliver an interesting talk on “Power of Mind”.

    Ms Liza Hazarika is currently working as a psychologist with Forward Seamen’s Union of India and is also associated with Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust as a volunteer and psychologist.

    Ms Hazarika is a certified Spiritual therapist from Amrit Asmi Institute. She believes in a holistic approach to treatment. She is the founder of Call For Healing, a space for spiritual practices. Ms Hazarika is also actively involved in several Non-Governmental Organizations working in areas of mental health. She has done her Master’s in Clinical psychology and Bachelor’s in Psychology from Handique Girl’s College, Guwahati.

  • Motivational session with Professor Upadrasta Ramamurty September 4, 2021

    Freshmen Orientation Programme-2021 welcomes Professor Upadrasta Ramamurty, School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, to deliver a talk on September 06, 2021, at 12 noon.

    Professor Upadrasta Ramamurty received a Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgy) degree from Andhra University in 1989 and a Master of Engineering (Metallurgy) degree from Indian Institute of Science in 1991, both with a Metallurgy specialisation, as well as a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Engineering from Brown University in 1994. His postdoctoral research was carried out at the University of California-Santa Barbara and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

    Professor Ramamurty is a widely respected researcher who has co-authored over 250 papers in peer-reviewed international journals that have been referenced over 9000 times (with a Hirsch index of 46) in both the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Several honours, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences’, the Lee Hsun Lecture Award of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, TWAS Prize (Engineering Sciences), CNR Rao Prize Lecture in Advanced Materials of Materials Research Society of India, J.C. Bose National Fellowship and Swarnajayanthi Fellowships of Government of India, Metallurgist of the Year Award by Indian Institute of Metals, and Scopus Young Scientist Award, have acknowledged his research efforts.

    Professor Ramamurty is an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, the Indian National Academy of Engineering, the Indian Academy of Sciences, and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). He held numerous distinguished/invited professor/scientist positions around the world, including the Institute of Materials Research (IMRE) in Singapore, Zhejiang University in China (Qiushi Distinguished Visiting Professor), Université de Lorraine in France (Exceptional Class Professeur invité), Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research in India, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

    Since 2014, Professor Ramamurty has served as an Editor for Acta Materialia and Scripta Materialia. Professor Ramamurty’s research focuses on addressing fundamental scientific and technological difficulties in the materials/mechanics domains, which have direct implications for advanced manufacturing as well as component structural integrity and reliability.

    Professor Ramamurty made significant contributions to the understanding of the mechanical behaviour of advanced metallic alloys, composites, and molecular crystals during the course of a nearly three-decade professional career. The nature of his work is both fundamental as well as applied and hence was continuously supported by industrial giants like Boeing, General Motors and Rolls Royce.

  • Insightful discussion with Mr Karl-Alexander Seidel September 3, 2021

    In the next chapter of Freshmen Orientation Programme-2021, a special talk will be delivered by renowned corporate mogul Mr Karl-Alexander Seidel. Mr Alex is the CEO and Head of Daimler Bus, India at Daimler India Commercial Vehicles. The talk has been scheduled for September 04, 2021, at 10.45 am  and aims to provide an insight of the industry and its culture.

    Mr Karl-Alexander Seidel started his career at Daimler in 2001. Between then and 2014, he held a variety of management functions in the fields of Reporting, Business Development, Product Planning and Homologation, mainly in Daimler’s commercial vehicles division, as well as at TASIAP GmbH in Stuttgart. Since 2014 he has been working for Daimler in India, where he was initially responsible for powertrain supplier management. Between 2016 and 2017 he was in charge of the “Logistics, Supplier & Quality Management” department at Daimler Buses in India before assuming his current function in 2017.

    Mr Karl-Alexander Seidel is a highly competent commercial vehicles manager with many years of India-related experience from our bus business in Chennai. In recent years he has made a significant contribution to building up our Indian bus production activities by implementing corresponding supply and logistics flows, as well as the corresponding quality management.

  • Dr K Vaithianathan to delve into the need for Games & Sports September 3, 2021

    In the next chapter of Freshmen Orientation Programme-2021, SRM University-AP takes the initiative to introduce the students to the need for Sports and extracurricular activities. Dr K Vaithianathan, Director-Sports, SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai, will interact with students on Friday, September 03, 2021, at 12 noon.

    Dr K Vaithianathan has more than 47 years of experience. He did his bachelor’s and master’s in Physical Education from ACPE, Madurai University, followed by a PhD from Annamalai University. He has also done PGD-Yoga and MSc-Yoga from Annamalai University.

    Dr K Vaithianathan began his career as a Physical Director in Erode Arts College. He later worked as a faculty in Alagappa College of Physical Education and Pondicherry University. He has also worked as Head, Professor and Director at Annamalai University. He also worked as the Vice-Chancellor of TamilNadu Physical Education and Sports University, Chennai. He joined SRM Institute of Science & Technology as the Director-Sports in 2013 and has brought many laurels to the institute.

    As a Sports Professional, Dr K Vaithianathan has achieved many awards and recognitions. He represented Tamil Nadu State, participating in the Madurai Open National Athletic Meet in 1974. He also participated in the Palai All India Inter State Athletic Meet in 1975 and secured places at the State and National levels in High Jump & 110 M.Hurdles. Moreover, under his able guidance and mentorship, many students won medals and awards in national and international championships.

  • Shipra Dhingra to spread awareness on mental health September 2, 2021

    The Freshmen Orientation Programme-2021 is thoughtfully designed to provide students with a holistic induction in academics and beyond academic matters. With the pandemic and other stressful things surrounding us, it has become crucial to take care of our mental health. Surprisingly, even today, many people do not understand the importance of mental health and the need to visit a specialist to keep it sound. Today, this critical issue will be discussed by Ms Shipra Dhingra, Psychologist and Art Therapist. On Thursday, September 02, 2021, she will deliver an address at 2.30 pm on “How to know if you need help”.

    Shipra Dhingra is an expressive art-based therapist licensed by UNESCO-CID and Fortis Healthcare, Shalimar Bagh, Delhi. She has completed her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Amity University, Noida. She is also working as a Counselling Psychologist cum journalist cum mental health advocate. Shipra Dhingra, a versatile woman, has also founded Happyness Peddler, an initiative to fight the stigma attached to mental health and spread awareness. Ms Shipra has been associated with the COVID-19 helpline for helping people go through these difficult times.

  • Mr KK Doddapaneni to inspire students on National Sports Day-2021 August 28, 2021

    SRMAP-National-Sports-Day
    On the occasion of National Sports Day, the Department of Student Affairs has organised a webinar on the importance of Games and Sports in a Student’s life. Celebrated IPL and Ranji Trophy player, Mr Kalyana Krishna Doddapaneni, will deliver a special talk to inspire and motivate students on August 29, 2021, at 05.00 pm.

    Mr Doddapaneni played in the Indian Premier League during the years of 2008-09 for the Deccan Chargers team. Prior to that, he played in the Andhra Ranji Cricket Team for 10 years and bagged 200+ first-class wickets. He has also played in vital tournaments such a Duleep and Deodhar Trophies. Mr Doddapaneni is currently working as a leading commentator for Start Sports. He is also the chairman of the Cricket Advisory Committee, Andhra Cricket Association. He has further established KK Global Cricket Academy in Andhra Pradesh with state-of-the-art facilities to promote cricket.

    Sports are a crucial part of a student’s holistic growth and development. Games and sports provide great help in the development of mental health and physical fitness of the body. In addition, through participation in sports and games, a student attains various skills and confidence helpful for developing their personality.

    Sports and games have several benefits for the students, such as it improves physical and mental health, empowers students with life skills, teaches time management and discipline, improves leadership and team-building qualities, teaches important life lessons such as Winning and losing and boosts self-confidence.

The last session of their 3-day induction programme will be delivered by Mr Rupesh Sharma on August 28, 2021, at 2.30 pm. Mr Sharma will be discussing “Recharge-Art of Positive Thinking”.

    Mr Rupesh Sharma is associated with Heartfulness Institute since August 2014. He became a trainer in January 2018. He has done B. Pharma from Medical College, Amritsar and is currently the Vice President for United Biotech, Delhi. Mr Sharma has 25 years of experience in Pharmaceuticals Sales and Marketing. He has spent the last 15 years in top companies such as Apple Therapeutics, USV Ltd., Lark Laboratories India Ltd. etc. Mr Sharma has successfully conducted 50+ workshops so far on Science of Meditation, Compassion and Empathy, Happiness Series, Introduction to HFN Practices.   • In conversation with Ms Koka Vijayalakshmi August 26, 2021

    freshmen orientation 2021 vijayalakshmiSRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh, unifies to welcome Freshmen of the academic year by inviting Ms Koka Vijayalakshmi, Classical Dancer, to deliver an inspiring speech on September 04, 2021, at 10.45 am.

    Ms Koka Vijayalakshmi was born into a Telugu family with a passion for fine arts. At the age of 5, she began learning Kuchipudi. Ms Vijayalakshmi holds an MA in Kuchipudi dance from PST University, Hyderabad and an M. Phil in Tourism Management. She is also pursuing her PhD in Dance. She has given more than 1000 performances in India and abroad.

    Ms Koka Vijayalakshmi is an Empanelled Artiste of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Koka Vijayalakshmi partook in many Festivals in India and abroad and has over 1000 performances to her credit. She has further choreographed celebrated dance ballets with thematic and innovative presentations.

    A Doordarshan Graded Artiste, Koka Vijayalakshmi, is dedicated to promoting dance in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. She set up the Sri Koka Radha Krishna Murthy Academy in memory of her father. This Academy promotes the Rich Indian Culture & Heritage through Indian fine arts in both Telugu-speaking States.

    Ms Vijayalakshmi has also released a rare book, “Bhogini Dandakam”, written by Sri Bammera Pothana and five Dance ballets in 2011 titled Telugu Samskruti Sourabhalu. She is also the founder secretary of Bharata Rangasthali Academy of Fine Arts.

    Ms Koka Vijayalakshmi has been recognised with many awards and accolades for her contributions to dance. She was awarded two Nandi awards and Ugadi Puraskaram from the Government of Andhra Pradesh, among others. She also holds two Guinness World Records.

  • Captivating session with Mr VV Lakshminarayana August 26, 2021

    Progressing with the Freshmen Orientation Programme-2021, where students learn about the university systems and processes, SRM University-AP has also made arrangements to introduce them to eminent people from various spheres of society. The university is honoured to have Mr Vasagiri Venkata Lakshminarayana, Former Additional Director General of Police in Mumbai, Maharashtra, on August 31, 2021, at 09.30 am for an interesting discussion.

    Mr Lakshminarayana, a son of the soil, dedicated his life to the service of the nation. He is well-known for leading some high profile investigations with repute and valour. The Retired-IPS officer had previously held the posts of Joint Commissioner of Police of Thane, Maharashtra and Inspector general of police Rank under Y-category security for dealing with high-profile corruption cases. He has also worked under Anti-Terrorism Squad and CBI. Mr V.V. Lakshmi Narayana has been conferred with the Presidents Police Medal for Distinguished Services on January 26 2017.

    He is known for his impactful speeches and interactions with youth that impels them towards maturity and development. He was an active member of the Lead India Foundation, which was started with the blessings of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Mr V.V. Lakshmi Narayana is also an avid blood donor. Moreover, as a part of his social duties towards the nation, he has adopted several villages that voluntarily prohibit alcohol – Chinnamandadi of Mahabubnagar District, Sahalalaputtuga of Srikakulam District and Seetharamapuram of Vizianagaram District are among them. He extensively travels in the villages of Andhra Pradesh to understand prominent issues, especially those of farmers, youth and women. Students are requested to avail the opportunity to welcome Mr Lakshminarayana to share his thoughts with us.
