Monochromatic painting of Mahatma Gandhi won hearts and the first prize at the inter-department competition.

Painting of GandhiThe Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is very proud of its student Ms Vyshnavi Tanikonda for securing the first prize in the Independence Day Painting Competition. Ms Vyshnavi painted a beautiful monochromatic painting of Mahatma Gandhi, the ‘Father of the Nation’ who fought for the independence and sovereignty of the country till his last breath. Ms Vyshnavi, a 2nd-year student, successfully captured the true essence of the great patriot in her painting which brought her the top prize in the inter-departmental competition. The Department of ECE heartily congratulates its daughter for bringing this honour to the department.

A student goes through multiple factors that may cause them immense stress and anxiety, especially during these testing times. An intervention enabling students to feel optimistic becomes crucial for improving their outlook of the future. Thereby, Department of Student Affairs, SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh organizes a webinar on “Meet your ‘Best Possible Self’ through Positive Psychology!” This session to be held on 30th August at 5 p.m. will have Dr Smita Sharma, Student Counselor, SRM AP, to take the audience through exercises that would eventually improve their attitude towards life.

“ECE in industry” – Talk Series 01

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh introduces “ECE in industry” programme, which will comprise of a series of talk by eminent industry experts. On 5th September,2020 at 5 p.m., Mr. Hanumanth Managoli has been invited to deliver a talk on “Advancements and Career Opportunities in Embedded and Automotive Embedded Systems”. Mr. Managoli is the Principal Consultant at Pi Square Technologies India, a Michigan based futuristic Automotive Embedded Engineering and Consulting company having association with top-notch suppliers in Automotive Industry.

Mr. Managoli possess 35 years of industry experience in various companies operating in the public and private sector. Being associated with the Indian Space Research Organization’s Satellite Centre (ISAC) as a Scientist, he worked on 2nd generation INSAT series of spacecraft. He then moved to be the founding member of the India Centre for PLC system-and-software development group at Asea Brown Boveri (ABB). Mr. Managoli is also proficient in Software Engineering Process frameworks and Standards such as CMMi, AutoSPICE, Functional Safety standards of ISO26262, IEC61508 & UL1998.

Teacher’s Day Programme at SRM AP

“The true teachers are those who help us think for ourselves”, says Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the 2nd President of India, whose birthday is observed every year to recognize the essential role of a teacher in shaping young minds and personalities. SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh has arranged a virtual celebration on Teacher’s Day, 5th September, 2020 at 4 p.m.

The ceremony will begin with an invocation, followed by an address from Prof V S Rao, Vice-Chancellor, and Prof D Narayana Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor. Further, the students have prepared song performances to appreciate the contribution of the teachers.

The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS)- Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is organizing yet another outreach programme titled “67th IIRS Outreach Programme- Understanding of coastal ocean processes using remote sensing and numerical modelling “. In lieu of SRM University AP-Andhra Pradesh’s alliance with IIRS-ISRO, the students will get the opportunity to opt for the programme that will be conducted from September 21, 2020 to September 25, 2020. Department of Physics, SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh has invited Dr Bhola Nath Pal, Associate Professor, School of Material Science and Technology, IIT(BHU), to deliver a talk as a Guest Speaker during the webinar to be held on September 14, 2020, at 11.30 a.m. In the webinar coordinated by Dr Goutam Kumar Dalapati (EMAIL: goutam.d@srmap.edu.in), Associate Professor, Department of Physics, SRM AP, Dr Pal will be speaking on “Colloidal quantum dots (QDs): Basic concept, Synthesis, and optoelectronics device application”, highlighting basic concepts of colloidal quantum dot, classification, general synthesis protocol and their optoelectronic applications.

Dr Pal has an array of experience in research from reputed institutes in India and abroad. His remarkable works on contemporary genres such as thin film devices, nanocrystal based electronics, and optoelectronics devices has earned him several accolades. During this webinar, he will also be conversing on his work on colloidal QD-based optoelectronic devices such as photo detectors, light-emitting diodes (LED), and solar cells.

SRMAP’s liaison with Northeastern University to encourage impactful education and research

SRM University-AP now has formed a liaison with Northeastern University, Boston, USA, with a vision of mutual endeavours towards the advancement of education and research. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed recently in this regard between the two universities. This is a significant venture to collaborate with top universities such as Northeastern University, which will lead the university to the path of advanced research and educational programmes.

The MoU committee of the SRMAP is working aggressively to bring top universities across the globe for the students to get the benefit and enhance their career. Northeastern University is part of the world’s top 5% of universities, and this collaboration will provide a possibility for our students to visit, learn, and explore from a top reputed university of the USA.

Our students are the primary beneficiaries of this MOU as it provides a platform for them to explore a study abroad programme there, including getting a UG degree from a top-ranked US university. Other beneficiaries include faculty members and scholars, for whom joint research programs could be enabled in the future.

The first MoU that has been signed is a generic MoU that helps SRM University-AP to talk with Northeastern University on the possibilities of collaboration. The following activities are possible with the current MoU that has been signed-
• Mobility of faculty, scholars and students between Institutions
• Joint teaching, research, or cultural activity
• Student services and support
• Professional development programmes for faculty and staff.
• Program based partnerships
• Joint development of ongoing and new curricula and academic projects
• Collaboration in academic publications and other materials of mutual interest

The MoU Committee of the University will further enhance the collaboration with specific departments. The university is already in the process of extending the collaboration to the department level, including Computer Science and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, to start with. Later, other engineering, science and management streams will be included in the alliance. SRMAP is also exploring opportunities on internships, semester abroad programs and other educational and research activities that will greatly benefit our students.
