  • Webinar on “Inspiring Innovation at SRM University with IEEE Research” June 30, 2020

Department of Computer Science and Engineering, SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh will be hosting a webinar on “Inspiring Innovation at SRM University with IEEE Research” in collaboration with IEEE Student Branch, SRM University-AP and IEEE Guntur Subsection on 1st July 2020.

The webinar is aimed at helping faculty and students (UG, PG, and research scholars) to discover yet-to-explore research issues pertinent to respective research domains. The webinar will enable students to explore the important information on IEEE Xplore (IEEE.org in general) site which will assist them to get better placement opportunities — through an in-depth knowledge regarding the research work being conducted by companies and organizations. The session will also introduce the advance facilities available for authors on IEEE site such as IEEE Authors Tools, author notifications etc. Other aspects include how to make quick decisions on choosing the right paper from an ocean of research articles on the internet, how to assess the impact of the research article and much more.

Coordinated by Dr. Manjula R, Assistant Professor, Department of CSE, the webinar will commence with a welcome note and Prof. Ragunathan T, head, Department of CSE, will precede the event with opening remarks. Followed by, Dr. Dhanukumar Pattanashetti, will take over the session.

  • Workshop on “Deep Learning-based Computer Vision and its Applications” June 14, 2020

Dr Sandeep Singh Sengar, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, is organising a workshop for the enthusiasts on “Deep Learning-based Computer Vision and its Applications” on 19th and 20th June 2020 at 11 a.m. onwards.

One of the main targets of Computer Vision is to interpret the content of Image and Video data. Machine/Deep learning is the science of designing and applying algorithms that can learn things from past cases. The workshop will focus on the concept and understanding of Image and Video Processing, Computer Vision and Deep Learning. In the workshop, participants will gain basic knowledge in the domains as well as hands-on experience in application and problem-solving. Attending the workshop will help participants immensely to come up with innovative ideas, but more importantly, they will have gained knowledge that could instantly set them apart from the crowd. The workshop is an excellent opportunity for those who want to build a career in this domain. In addition to that, research scholars, faculties or industry persons will also be benefitted from the action-oriented discussion and shared knowledge.

The competition comprised 12 questions, of which some were multiple choice based and some were programming based challenges. Students were at liberty to choose any programming language as per their inclination. “Logic, Mathematics along with algorithmic thinking are the key factors for winning this competition”, said Dr Bhanukiran, Assistant Professor, Computer Science Engineering and organiser of the event. The students were given one and half hour to finish the competition. “Classroom studies are not everything. Students need to have some hands-on experience. Coding is something which cannot be learnt within the limit of books. This competition will give the students the exposure and experience of coding that they really need. It will also prepare the students for their future industry endeavours” added Dr Bhanukiran. Great excitement was seen among the participants. Charan Tangirala, the winner of the competition said, “It was a deeply enriching experience for us. Coding is something I’m very passionate about, and to be able to solve challenges within a specific period of time makes it more exciting. I am looking forward to more healthy competitions like this in the future.”
