From Mechanisms to Therapies: Expert Talk by Dr Kotla Sivareddy
February 12 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
The Department of Biological Sciences is organising an Expert Talk titled “Senescence-Associated Cardiovascular Dysfunction: From Mechanisms to Therapies.” This session will be delivered by Dr Kotla Sivareddy, an eminent Professor in the Department of Cardiology at the Division of Internal Medicine, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX.
About the Speaker:
Dr Kotla is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bangalore India, where he focused on foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) biology, including vaccine efficacy and immune responses.
Dr Kotla’s post-doctoral work at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center centered on redox regulation in vascular inflammation and atherosclerosis, and he was later promoted to Research Instructor. In 2017, he joined MD Anderson, where his research focuses on understanding cardiotoxicity associated with cancer therapies. Using transgenic and knockout mouse models, his work integrates molecular biology, cell-based assays, metabolism, and mitochondrial biology to uncover cardiovascular damage in cancer patients and develop strategies to reduce this toxicity.
In addition to his research, Dr Kotla plays an active role in leadership within several professional societies, including the ATVB Leadership Council, NAVBO, and SFRBM. He has also contributed to the scientific community through his service on peer-review study sections for both the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health, where he recently served as an ad-hoc member of the Radiation Therapeutic Biological (RTB) Study Section.
The talk promises to provide valuable insights into the mechanisms of senescence-associated cardiovascular dysfunction as well as potential therapeutic strategies.
