Dr. Somesh Vinayak Tewari, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (SRM University AP) was awarded the prestigious “Outstanding Doctoral Students Award”, from Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) at an event held at the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) Convention Centre, Anushaktinagar, Mumbai. Dr. Tewari was presented this award for his PhD thesis titled “Study of surface flashover of insulator in gases at high pressure.”
Dr. Tewari is among the 21 research scholars who were honoured by Dr. Anil Sahasrabudhe (Chairman, All India Council For Technical Education), in the presence of Mr. K.N Vyas, (Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy & Chairman Atomic Energy Commission), Dr. Anil Kakodar, (Ex Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy and Ex. Chairman Atomic Energy Commission), Dr.Srikumar Banerjee (Ex Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, Ex. Chairman Atomic Energy Commission & Chancellor HBNI) at HBNI’s foundation day.
His study involved solving the problem of insulation at high voltage by designing a compact pulse generator and related experimentation and at understanding and proposing alternative analyzing methods for surface flashover. He leveraged tools such as the particle- in –cell code, surface potential decay and optical emission spectroscopy for understanding the surface flashover behavior.
Speaking of his study, Dr. Tewari said, “My journey started from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), HBNI where research interest in the high voltage pulse power technology was intrigued because of its diverse potential applications in the field of medicine, industry, and defence.”
His contribution and experience is going to offer a practical exposure to the students who would be able to use their acquired expertise in providing solutions to problems pertaining to various sectors. On receiving this award, Dr. Tewari said, “I am grateful to the management of SRM AP for their continuous support and motivation.”
