  • SRM University-AP Forges Partnership with TAR UMT, Malaysia November 14, 2024

    The Directorate of International Relations and Higher Studies at SRM University-AP signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysia’s globally renowned institution—Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management And Technology, TAR UMT, Malaysia.These partnerships are aimed at fostering collaborative research, expanding publication opportunities, offering co-teaching and course supervision, and hosting joint conferences.

    The Malaysian delegation, represented by Prof. Say Sok Kwan, Vice President for Administration and Internationalisation at TAR UMT, expressed a shared vision. “At TAR UMT, our primary focus is to ensure that we uphold the highest standards in education and prioritise affordable education to all. We are not commercially driven.” She asserted that this partnership will generate research that not only benefits our local community but also has a positive impact on society at large.

    Adding to this sentiment, Prof. Ranjit Thapa, stated that the varsity being a research-intrinsic university wherein the varsity dedicates 15-20% of its budget for research. He stated that collaborating with TAR UMT would be a step towards co-creating knowledge that addresses global challenges. Dr Sudeshna and Prof. Ranjit Thapa brainstormed with the Malaysian delegation on areas that they can begin collaborating, they agreed that  Industry Internships, enrollment in upcoming international conferences and co- supervising research would be a great start.

    Prof. C V Tomy, Dean School of Engineering and Sciences, presented the Malaysian Delegation with a gist of the university’s research, academic and Entrepreneurial environment. He stressed on the fact that as an institution of higher education SRM AP focuses on research and that here at the varsity, research is encouraged across all programmes, including the faculty and the undergraduate students.

    Dr Sudeshna Saha, Associate Director of the Directorate of International Relations and Higher Studies at SRM University-AP, as well as other esteemed deans and faculty members, attended the event. Alongside the Malaysian representatives, including Dr Loke Chui Fung, Vice President for Research & Development and Commercialisation, and Dr Karthiyani Shanmugam, Dean of the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Mr Marcus Ooi Hwee Jin– Director, Department of International Student Office, and Mr Danny Chng Loi Peng– Director, Centre for Continuing and Professional Education .

    This partnership is poised to enhance academic synergies and contribute significantly to addressing both local and global challenges through collaborative research and education.

  • SRM AP Expands Horizons with India-Malaysia Academic Expedition October 16, 2024

    The Directorate of International Relations and Higher Studies (IR & HS), led by Dr Sudeshna Saha, Assistant Director and Sandeep Samala, Deputy Manager, embarked on a fruitful academic expedition tour to Kuala Lumpur from September 30 to October 3, 2024. This initiative aimed to foster collaboration between SRM University-AP and several prestigious Malaysian institutions.

    The primary objectives of the expedition were to explore collaborative opportunities, identify potential research partnerships, and promote matching grants that would mutually benefit the participating institutions.
    During the expedition, a significant milestone was achieved with the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with several prominent Malaysian universities. Among them were the University of Malaya (#60 in QS World University Rankings 2025), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (#181), Sunway University (#539), and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (#800-#850). Additionally, collaborations were established with Malaysia University of Science and Technology (#88 in Asian University Rankings-Southeastern Asia 2024), Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (#139), University Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering, and UNITAR International University.

    The primary objectives of the visit were multi-faceted:

    1. Exploring Collaborative Opportunities: The expedition aimed to identify and establish potential research collaborations between SRM University-AP and Malaysian institutions, fostering an environment conducive to joint academic exploration.

    2. Promoting Matching Grants: The delegation sought to encourage initiatives such as matching grants that mutually benefit both institutions, enhancing research capabilities and funding opportunities.

    3. Co-hosting Conferences: Plans were established to organise joint conferences, seminars, or workshops that facilitate the sharing of research findings and help build a robust academic network.

    4. Collaborating on Scientific Projects: The institutions discussed initiating and supporting collaborative scientific research projects reflecting their combined strengths.

    5. Focused Research Areas: Identifying key research areas for collaboration was paramount, with a commitment to connect with relevant Points of Contact (PIC) at the University of Malaya.

    6. Joint Publications: The MoUs aim to foster partnerships for co-authored publications, thereby benefiting both institutions’ academic output.

    7. Postgraduate Supervision: The institutions are committed to enhancing academic development by collaborating in the joint supervision of postgraduate students, emphasising PhD candidates.

    8. Staff Mobility & Research Initiatives: A significant focus was placed on facilitating academic staff exchange programs to promote staff mobility and collaborative research initiatives.

    9. Undergraduate Mobility Programs: Developing student mobility programs, including summer schools or student exchange opportunities, for undergraduates was a key part of the discussions.

    The expedition successfully laid the groundwork for future collaborations, focusing on immersion programs, research internships, student and faculty mobility, and joint research initiatives.

    As SRM University-AP continues to establish itself as a leader in higher education, this journey to Malaysia represents a commitment to nurturing global academic relationships and empowering the next generation of learners through collaborative endeavors.

  • SRM University-AP Hosts Transformative Aadigyan 2024 for Malaysian Students August 22, 2024

    The Directorate of International Relations &Higher Studies recently concluded the Aadigyan—Indian Immersion Program 2024, a comprehensive five-day event held from August 16th to 20th. This program was designed to provide bachelor students from UTP Malaysia with an immersive experience of Indian culture, economy, and technological advancements.

    The program offered a rich blend of academic lectures, hands-on workshops, industry visits, cultural experiences, and recreational activities. Over the course of five days, students engaged in cultural exchange and understanding through interactive sessions and cultural tours, fostering a deeper connection between Indian and Malaysian students.

    Participants were introduced to various facets of Indian history, economy, business models, and technological advancements, broadening their intellectual horizons. Industry visits provided insights into the Indian industrial landscape, promoting an understanding of emerging trends and opportunities.

    Highlights of Aadigyan IIP 2024:

    • Design Thinking Workshop: Conducted by Prof. Satyanarayana Duvvuri, Associate Director – Directorate of Executive Education and Professional Studies & Professor of Practice, Paari School of Business.
    • Essence of Entrepreneurship: A session by Prof. Sidharth Tripathy, Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, highlighting the importance of creating new products and ideas to meet market needs. Prof. Tripathy explained that entrepreneurship is derived from the Sanskrit words “antah” (innermost) and “prerna” (inspiration).
    • Climate Change Solutions: Students were tasked with providing solutions for contemporary climate change issues, enhancing their understanding of the scope and impact of these problems.
    • Customer-Centric Product Development: Emphasized the need for a deep understanding of customers, empathy, and creative problem-solving. Students learned the importance of observing market dynamics to connect with customers effectively.
    • Business Insights: AVS Kamesh from PSB provided an introduction to key elements of business and career paths in marketing and management.
    • Digital Marketing: Kirti Krishna conducted a session on digital marketing tools and the differences between traditional and digital marketing.

    The program concluded with a valedictory address by Sandeep Samala. During the ceremony, students and professors from the IR council shared heartfelt experiences, reflecting on their journey together. The event was marked by the exchange of mementos and the capturing of photographs, commemorating this significant event in their academic careers. Aadigyan IIP 2024 aimed to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of leaders from Malaysia, preparing them to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the 21st-century global landscape.

  • Sakura Sangam: Indo Japan Joint Workshop August 2, 2024

    In a groundbreaking initiative, the Directorate of IR & HS, along with the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering, successfully hosted the “Sakura Sangam: Indo Japan Joint Workshop,” a two-day virtual event held on July 29 and 30, 2024. This workshop, organised in collaboration with Toyo University, Japan and supported by SRM Global Consulting, aimed to foster academic collaboration and cultural exchange between India and Japan.

    During the first day, participants delved into key subjects within Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics engineering, engaging in dynamic sessions that facilitated knowledge exchange and exploration of the latest advancements in these critical fields. The workshop provided a platform for students and professionals alike to enhance their understanding and contribute to ongoing discussions about innovation and technology.

    The second day of the workshop was particularly enriching. It featured talks and seminars highlighting the rich cultural heritage of both nations. Attendees had the unique opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation for the traditions and customs that define the Indo-Japanese relationship. Vice Chancellor Dr Manoj K. Arora explained the meaning of ‘Sakura Sangam.’ He noted that “Sakura” refers to cherry blossoms, which are highly cherished in Japanese culture and symbolise the beauty and fleeting nature of life. ‘Sangam’ means ‘coming together’ in Sanskrit. This introduction set the stage for the workshop’s focus on bringing people together and sharing cultures.
    Professor discussed India’s reputation as an IT hub and Japan’s renowned manufacturing expertise. He suggested that by combining these strengths, we could share knowledge and strengthen our bonds. The professor then officially started the workshop with a brief introduction, outlining what we will cover over the next two days.

    Dr P Vivekananda Shanmuganathan provided a detailed brief on the research activities at SRMAP, with a particular focus on Mechanical Engineering. He highlighted some of the prominent PhD scholars and their ongoing research projects, showcasing their contributions to advanced topics such as innovative manufacturing processes and robotics. This presentation underscored the university’s dedication to cutting-edge research and its role in advancing the field through the efforts of its talented scholars.
    Dr Vitalram Rayankula presented his research on Inverse Kinematics, focusing on the “Two Degree of Freedom Manipulator,” a robotic arm with two independent movements. He discussed the challenges of motion planning, particularly when dealing with line-type obstacles. Dr. Rayankula compared scenarios where the manipulator encounters obstacles without collision to those where collisions occur, highlighting the importance of precise calculations and control algorithms for safe robotic operation.

    Dr Kiran Kumar discussed electric vehicles (EVs) and their challenges compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. He highlighted issues such as the efficiency of ICE components, the longer recharge time for EVs, and the need for additional lead-acid batteries to match the energy density of gasoline. Dr. Kumar emphasized the limitations of current battery technology, which impact the range, weight, and overall efficiency of EVs, while also noting the environmental benefits they offer.

    Prof. Shinobu Yamaguchi explored Japan’s changing perspectives regarding India, emphasising the importance of mutual cultural understanding in today’s globalised world. She highlighted how Japan’s view of India has evolved significantly over time.

    In addition to technical topics, the workshop also included career-oriented sessions designed to equip students with insights into the professional landscape. Industry experts provided guidance on internships, job prospects, and the latest trends influencing both the Japanese and Indian job markets.

    The “Sakura Sangam” workshop proved to be a resounding success, fostering both academic and cultural ties and paving the way for future collaborations between educational institutions in India and Japan.

    Dr M Sheikh Mohamed shared insights from his 14-year journey in Japan, focusing on both challenges and growth opportunities.
    ● Academic Background: Originally from Chennai, Dr. Mohamed completed his B.Sc., M.Sc., and M.Phil. in Biotechnology before moving to Japan.
    ● Language Challenges: He emphasised the complexity of learning Japanese, especially the kanji script, which can be daunting for newcomers.
    ● Cultural Adaptation: Dr. Mohamed discussed the importance of mutual respect and understanding in Japan, noting that being polite and helpful can go a long way in overcoming cultural barriers.
    ● Time Management: He admired the punctuality ingrained in Japanese society, where trains and trams run with remarkable precision.
    ● Earthquake Preparedness: Recounting an earthquake experience, he observed the calm and orderly manner in which people evacuated buildings, reflecting the nation’s preparedness and resilience.

    Thamtoro Elias Dillan, Department of Mechanical Engineering, International Student from Indonesia, provided a detailed account of the key challenges and experiences faced by international students in Japan:
    1. Language Barrier: The difficulty of mastering Japanese can be a significant hurdle for international students, impacting daily life and academic success.
    2. Student Life: He highlighted the differences in student life between Japan and his home country, including the structure of academic programs and extracurricular activities.
    3. Cost of Living: He discussed the relatively high cost of living in Japan, including accommodation, food, and transportation, and offered tips on managing expenses.
    4. Location: The choice of university location can greatly affect the student experience, with major cities offering more opportunities but also higher living costs.
    5. Help & Support: He stressed the importance of seeking help and support from university resources and local communities to navigate the challenges of living abroad.

    Sankar San and Mr. Masahiro Koizumi, Senior Operating Officer of Forum Engineering and Managing Director of Cognavi India, discussed the evolving landscape of educational and career opportunities between Japan and India, focusing on the following aspects:
    1. Opportunities in India for Japanese Students: They highlighted the growing interest among Japanese students in India’s IT and engineering sectors, offering diverse opportunities for learning and career growth.
    2. Opportunities in Japan for Indian Students: They noted that Japan offers unique opportunities for Indian students, particularly in fields like robotics, engineering, and business management.
    3. Identified Gaps: They discussed the gaps in mutual understanding and the challenges students face in adapting to different educational and cultural environments.
    4. Changing Trends: They emphasised how initiatives like exchange programs and collaborative projects are bridging these gaps, fostering greater understanding and collaboration.

    Sankar San and Jotish San detailed SRM’s strategic initiatives to integrate Japanese language and culture into their curriculum:
    ● Curriculum Integration: SRM AP has introduced Japanese language courses from the first year, aiming to equip students with the language skills needed for internships and job placements in Japan.
    ● Destination Japan Program: This program offers students opportunities to experience Japanese culture and work environments, enhancing their global competence.
    ● Internship and Placement Opportunities: They highlighted partnerships with Japanese companies, providing internships and placements for students, which can be pivotal for career development.
    ● SRM Group’s Vision: They concluded by sharing SRM’s broader vision of fostering international collaboration and preparing students for a globalized job market.

    Ms. Aditi Jain, Director of International Relations and Higher Studies, has eloquently addressed the concept of internationalization and its potential benefits for students from both nations. She highlighted the invaluable partnerships at SRM AP, which foster cross-cultural exchanges and enhance academic collaboration. In her words, “Internationalization not only broadens academic horizons but also cultivates a deeper understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures, preparing students for a globalised world.” These initiatives are not just about enhancing educational experiences; they also empower students to develop a global perspective, essential for succeeding in today’s interconnected environment.

    The Directorate of International Relations and Higher Studies (IR&HS) at SRM University-AP has organised Aadigyan Winter Youth Programme. The event is the varsity’s flagship initiative and is conducted to introduce International students and to familiarise them with the Indian culture, its history and lifestyle. This year the varsity hosted students and faculty from Alpine High School, Nepal. The event, which spanned over three days, saw students engage in the world of knowledge and innovation.

    The induction featured Vice Chancellor, Prof. Manoj K Arora, Deans, Assistant and Associate Deans of the three schools, and Directors and other luminaries. The event highlights included insightful sessions on engineering, liberal arts, and a unique experimental workshop, “Walk with a Scientist”, that saw Prof. Jayaseelan Murugaiyan introduce the students to the vast diversity of flora and fauna on the campus.

    The third day of the Aadigyan Youth Programme saw the students attend insightful sessions by luminaries such as Prof. A V S Kamesh, Professor Paari School; Mr Sidharth Shankar Tripathy, Director Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Ms Kriti Gopal Das, ISKCON and finally Ms Aditi Jain, Director-IR&HS.

    From February 21st to 24th, 2024, the university hosted Prof. Akihiro Matsumoto, Prof. Sho Yokota and Mr. Yutaka Kikuchi from Toyo University and Forum Engineering. Through interactive discussions and immersive sessions, the delegates gained valuable insights into Indian culture and traditions and promising opportunities for collaboration.

Witness the dawn of a new academic era, brimming with opportunities that promise to revolutionise our educational landscape. This enlightening gathering was more than a meeting of minds; it was a fusion of cutting-edge research and shared visions. The delegates engaged intimately with our esteemed faculty and brilliant research scholars from the Mechanical and Electrical and Electronics Engineering Departments, sparking dialogues that promise to kindle innovative research collaborations.

    Their exploration of our state-of-the-art research facilities provided a window into the advanced realm of EV Research Technologies at SRM University-AP. The visit illuminated the potential for groundbreaking advancements in sustainable technology, reflecting our commitment to pioneering solutions for a greener future.

    The academic engagement was beautifully complemented by industry visits to Efftronics Systems Pvt Ltd and Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd, where practical insights and real-world applications bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and industrial praxis.

    Culminating the visit, our guests were immersed in the rich tapestry of Indian culture, exploring the serene Amaravati Buddha Statue, the sacred Amareswara Swami Temple, and the historic Durga Temple in Vijayawada. This cultural odyssey not only showcased the heritage of our region but also fostered a deeper mutual respect and understanding, enriching the fabric of our international collaboration.

    As we reflect on these three days of intellectual exchange, cultural immersion, and visionary exploration, we are filled with hope and excitement for the future collaborations that will undoubtedly emerge from this fertile groundwork.   • Exploring Potential Collaboration with SUNY ESF February 2, 2024

    Prof. Bandaru Ramarao, who currently serves as the Chair of Chemical Engineering at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, visited SRM University-AP to explore potential collaborations between the two prestigious institutions.

    During his visit, Prof. Ramarao conducted an engaging session with the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Manoj K Arora; Director of International Relations and Higher Studies (IR&HS), Ms Aditi Jain; and senior members of the faculty where they discussed various opportunities for collaboration, including the possibility of establishing an association for Masters and Ph.D. students, faculty and student exchange programmes, and scholarship collaborations for faculty members. Dr Jayaseelan Murugaiyan, Associate Dean in-charge of Sciences, proposed that the varsity could opt for a co-guide system between SUNY ESF and SRM AP.

    Prof. Ramarao also delivered a seminar focused on “Techniques for Analysis of Transport Processes in Fibrous and Porous Media,” which was attended by enthusiastic masters and research scholars from the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering. The session was highly informative and provided valuable insights into the techniques used for analysing transport processes in fibrous and porous media. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session. A token of appreciation was presented to Prof. Ramarao, culminating the visit into a huge success and paving the way for fruitful collaborations between the two institutions in the future.

With a wealth of over 18 years of experience spanning education, skill development, and the EdTech industry. She has contributed to Fortune 500 companies, the development sector, universities, and global start-ups, including renowned organizations like American Express, Samsung, Microsoft, and Bennett University. Ms. Jain is poised to lead the Directorate to new heights, contributing to SRM University-AP‘s standing as a global education hub.

    SRM University-AP played host to a dynamic and visionary Indo-Australian Collaboration Meet aimed at fostering academic partnerships and research collaborations between the two nations. The event featured a delegation led by H.E. Sarah Kirle, the Australian Consulate General. It occurred in the esteemed presence of Vice Chancellor Prof. Manoj K Arora and Registrar Dr R. Premkumar.

    The Collaboration provided a platform for fruitful discussions and exploring potential collaborative initiatives between educational institutions in India and Australia. The discussions centred around ways to promote the exchange of knowledge, faculty and students, as well as joint research initiatives and cultural programs. Both parties expressed their commitment to developing academic exchange programmes that would allow students and faculty to gain a deeper understanding of each other’s cultures and educational environments.     SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh, takes a momentous step towards enhancing its global presence and fostering academic collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of South Florida (USF). This historic event took place in the esteemed presence of Prof. Manoj K Arora, Vice Chancellor, SRM University-AP, Dr Prashant Mohapatra, Provost & Executive Vice President of the University of South Florida, along with Dr Kiki Caruson, Vice President, USF.

    The MOU hailed as an “umbrella agreement” represents a comprehensive and strategic partnership to promote collaborative research, student exchanges, faculty interactions, and cultural engagement between the two institutions. This MOU will pave the way for academic exchanges, joint research initiatives, and collaborative projects that will enrich the educational experience for students and faculty at both institutions.
