Place: Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan

MTH Junaidi, a freshman from the Computer Science and Engineering department at SRM University, Andhra Pradesh gave a lightning talk on biases in machine learning training datasets at PyCon Taiwan. PyCon Taiwan is an annual international conference organised by the Python Software Foundation at Academia Sinica in Taipei City, Taiwan. Junaidi was invited to speak on the work he did at Next Tech Lab on racial biases present in datasets used to train artificial intelligence algorithms.

The entire trip’s cost was sponsored by the conference organizers based on a scholarship application. The conference was attended by over 400 people from all across the world and featured talks from researchers, developers and other prominent people in the technology industry. The conference was sponsored by Microsoft, Appier, MySQL, E.SUN Bank, Trend Micro among others. MTH Junaidi is one of the youngest Indians to speak at an international PyCon. Impressed with the students’ LinkedIn profiles from SRM University including this guy in the mainframe – Junaidi. I appreciate their forethinking and going beyond limits to inspire co-students and industry employees residing here in India.
