Skills & Abilities
Synthesis - Ambient and high pressure synthesis of perovskite oxides. Ceramic processing to obtain dense and insulating materials. Thin film deposition using RF-magnetron sputtering and pulsed laser deposition.
Character-ization - X-ray and neutron powder diffraction (phase identification and Rietveld refinement using Topas and Fullprof). Electron diffraction analysis on selected area electron diffraction and convergent beam electron diffraction. Piezoelectric and ferroelectric characterization, Rayleigh analysis. Impedance and dielectric spectroscopy. Magnetoelectric coupling studies to probe linear and higher order effects. Magnetic and transport characterization.
Instrument - Furnaces, high-pressure synthesis apparatus (RIKEN CAP 07 and Rockland), RF-magnetron sputtering and pulsed laser deposition for thin film growth. Bruker D8 Advance (ambient and high temperature), PANalytical X’pert X-ray diffractometer. Radiant workstation and aixACCT piezoelectric evaluation system. Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS), SQUID MPMS XL-7, MPMS3, Dynacool, cryo-cooled superconducting magnet system (Cryo Industries of America). Experienced in handling cryogenic liquid. Magnetoelectric coupling measurement (custom set-up using SQUID MPMS). Agilent impedance analyzer and LCR meter. Atomic force microscopy (contact and non-contact mode), piezoelectric force microscopy.
