Revolutionary mega-project on Hydrogen Powered Train announced by SRM Amaravati

Adding another starmark to its glory, SRM team has once again come up with a revolutionary mega project-Jal-Janak Rail (Hydrogen Powered Train). A complete green, HYDROGEN powered TRAIN is proposed jointly by SRM University and Integral Coach Factory, Chennai.

A seminar was organized on 21st November at Amaravati campus to encourage the students and faculties to be a part of “Jal-Janak Rail (Hydrogen Powered Train)” and its associated projects.

The speaker of the seminar – Dr. Bhalchandra A. Kakade, Research Associate Professor, Chemical Sciences, SRM University, Chennai, presented the idea of this ambitious project and also gave an overview of SRM contribution in this joint venture with ICF, Chennai. The speaker discussed the importance of the proposed project on the back drop of global warming. Dr Kakade proposed fuel cell as an alternative to the life threatening conventional non-renewable energy sources for powering the locomotives.

The project can significantly contribute by keeping a check on carbon dioxide emissions and in reducing the dependency on renewable energy sources – all these being the foremost needs of the society. Closing the seminar, Dr Kakade discussed the contribution of SRM University in this mega revolutionary project that includes power customization, energy management, and battery management system.
