Prof. S. Irudaya Rajan Explicates on the Future of Migration

The Department of Economics is hosting a special lecture on The Future of Migration by the distinguished visiting faculty Prof S Irudaya Rajan. The lecture will explore the future of migration, analysing its economic implications and developmental impacts. The lecture will also offer insight into the evolving migration patterns and their role in transforming India’s demographic shifts and growth trajectory.

About the Speaker:

Prof. S. Irudaya Rajan is a renowned demographer and migration expert, currently serving as Chairman of the International Institute of Migration and Development (IIMAD) in Kerala, India. Prior to this, he was a Professor at the Centre for Development Studies. He is the Founder Editor in Chief of Migration and Development (Sage) and the editor of two Routledge series – India Migration Report and South Asia Migration Report. He has coordinated nine large-scale migration surveys in Kerala since 1998 (with K.C. Zachariah) and replicated the Kerala model of migration surveys in other states, including Goa (2008), Punjab (2009), Tamil Nadu (2015), and Odisha (2023) and has been instrumental in similar surveys in Gujarat (2011), and Jharkhand (2023). With nearly four decades of experience, he has authored numerous publications, including the India Migration Report, and is a leading voice on migration and development.
