Eight such labs will be set up next year, says varsity Pro V-C
SRM University-Andhra Pradesh has launched its first New Cell Culture facility on its premises in Amaravati to pioneer bio-medical research on cancer cells. This facility will house the latest equipment required for cellular culture, drug delivery, cell imaging and cell cytotoxicity.
Anil K. Suresh, principal investigator of the laboratory and an associate professor at the Department of Biotechnology, spearheaded the acquisition of equipment such as Type 2 biosafety cabinet, CO2 incubators, cell counting machine, inverted and upright microscopes, table-top centrifuge, – 20 and 4 degree refrigerators and cell storage facility.
SRM-A.P. pro vice-chancellor D. Narayana Rao said necessary financial support would be extended to encourage faculty to establish research centers in their areas of expertise.
“Such laboratories will help in transform the university into a leading international research hub in science and technology. To establish SRM-A.P. as a research-intensive university, eight such laboratories will be set up in the next year including a genome research centre”, he stated.
