Amaravati, Nov 21 (UNI) SRM University has taken up a prestigious and mega research project “Hyderabad Train-KalJanak Rail” for the first time in the country in partnership with Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.
SRM University Pro-Vice-chancellor Prof. D Narayana Rao announced this at an interactive session “Hydrogen Train”, which was held at SRM-Andhra Pradesh campus, in Amaravati, on Tuesday with faculty members and students taking part.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof Narayana Rao said the project to be completed in a period of two years motivate the students to get involved in the project to widen their knowledge, skills and creativity.
Dr Bhalachandra Kakade, Associate Professor, Chemical Sciences, SRM University, Chennai explained the technical details and importance of the project.
He said the future of energy source is only Hydrogen. The present fuels like Natural Gas, Coal and Petrol may get exhausted in the years to come and may not be available in future.
The Nuclear power has some resistance from some sections of the society. So, in these critical conditions, the world is moving towards Hydrogen as a source of energy, he said.
The team has completed some preliminary work on the project and now they have taken up detailed work on the project to develop transportation of Hydrogen, storage and cells to store the Hydrogen power, he informed, adding that in this Hydrogen Train, SRM University has to conduct researches on storage and cells and other issues and the ICF would take up work on new designs for coaches for the train.
