SRM University-AP to Host Workshop on State Roads Maintenance and Rehabilitation

SRM University-AP, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Roads and Buildings (R&B) department and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI), is set to host a one-day workshop titled “State Roads Maintenance and Rehabilitation (M&R): Challenges & Best Practices” on October 7, 2024. The event will take place at the university’s campus and will feature Sri B C Janardhan Reddy, the Hon’ble Minister for R&B, Government of Andhra Pradesh, as the chief guest.

The workshop aims to address the critical challenges associated with the maintenance and rehabilitation of state roads. By focusing on current practices, the event will provide a platform for discussing effective rehabilitation programmes, including techniques for overlaying damaged roads and addressing pervasive issues such as cracks and potholes. While these traditional methods remain in use, the workshop will also shed light on the limited implementation of sustainable practices, such as recycling materials, in state road maintenance.

Prof. Manoranjan Parida, Director of CRRI, will deliver the keynote address, sharing valuable insights on the current condition of state roads in Andhra Pradesh and outlining typical maintenance and rehabilitation practices.

This workshop represents a vital opportunity for collaboration and knowledge exchange, aiming to enhance the quality and sustainability of road infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh. Participants will gain a comprehensive overview of maintenance and rehabilitation programmes, understand the typical practices employed by state agencies, and explore successful M&R strategies implemented across the country. The workshop will also aim to identify a roadmap for sustainable programs tailored for state roads and brainstorm potential solutions for the challenges faced by AP state roads, including local canal road issues and soil failures requiring major rehabilitation efforts.
