ACTS Club of SRM University-AP recently organised an interactive seminar titled “Of Pockets and Nighties” by Dr Ipsita Pradhan, Assistant Professor, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, shedding light on the profound influence of patriarchy on dressing styles. The seminar aimed to delve into the societal norms that shape gender-based dress codes, perpetuating inequality. With the objective of raising awareness and empowering participants to question traditional expectations, the event sparked meaningful discussions and inspired action towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
The seminar provided a platform for participants to critically analyse the impact of gendered dressing norms and explore the ways in which these norms contribute to the perpetuation of gender inequality. Dr Ipsita Pradhan, an expert in the field, guided attendees through a thought-provoking session that challenged conventional notions of dressing and the associated gender stereotypes.
Through engaging discussions and insightful presentations, participants gained awareness of the deep-rooted influence of patriarchy on dressing choices. The seminar encouraged individuals to question societal expectations and norms, empowering them to challenge traditional gender-based dress codes.
The event fostered collaboration and networking, creating an environment for participants to connect and exchange ideas. This laid the groundwork for future initiatives aimed at promoting inclusivity and creating a more equitable society.
