Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay organizes an annual science and technology festival or Techfest. This year on September 26, IIT Bombay will conduct Online Workshops on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in association with SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh. The initiative is primarily designed for young students to combat mental health issues, especially the ones concerning the pandemic situation.

Professional counselor will exclusively cater to participants through individual workshops and enlighten them to recognize mental health issues. The participants will also learn about the key aspects of living a stress-free and fulfilling life, particularly during these uncertain times.

In addition to this, signed certificates on behalf of Techfest, IIT Bombay, will be provided to every participant who attends the entire workshop, as a token of solidarity with the initiative.

Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) -Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is organizing the 68th outreach programme “Geographical Information System”. Students of SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh, due to the university’s collaboration with IIRS-ISRO, have the prospect of attending this programme from September 28 to October 15, 2020.

A Geographic Information System (GIS) captures and stores data pertaining to earth’s surface such as population, landscape, vegetation, sites of factories, farms, schools, storm, drains, roads, and electric power lines.

With GIS technology, locations of different elements can be compared to comprehend linkages among them, and to identify risks. Considered as the future of geospatial studies, this outreach programme on GIS will enable students to accomplish great milestones in their future endeavours.

SRM University-AP has made arrangements to introduce our new students with renowned people from every sphere of life as a part of their Orientation Programme to help them understand and experience the diversity of life and occupations. It is now time to meet another great personality, Mr Vasagiri Venkata Lakshminarayana, Former Additional Director General of Police in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Mr Lakshminarayana, the son of the soil, dedicated his life to the service of the nation. He is well-known for leading some high profile investigations with repute and valour. The Retired-IPS officer had previously held the posts of Joint Commissioner of Police of Thane, Maharashtra and Inspector general of police Rank under Y-category security for dealing with high-profile corruption cases. He has also worked under Anti-Terrorism Squad and CBI. Mr V.V. Lakshmi Narayana has been conferred with the Presidents Police Medal for Distinguished Services on 26 January 2017.

He is known for his impactful speeches and interactions with youth that impels them towards maturity and development. He was an active member of Lead India Foundation which was started with the blessings of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Mr V.V. Lakshmi Narayana is also an avid blood donor. Moreover, as a part of his social duties towards the nation, he has adopted several villages that voluntarily prohibit alcohol – Chinnamandadi of Mahabubnagar District, Sahalalaputtuga of Srikakulam District and Seetharamapuram of Vizianagaram District are among them. He extensively travels in the villages of Andhra Pradesh to understand prominent issues especially those of farmers, youth and women. Our Orientation Programme-2020 has been graced by the presence of eminent personalities of the different sector who have shared their views and experience with the student to inspire and motivate them. We now have another renowned personality among us who will be honouring us with her presence in tomorrow’s session. Ms Karuna Gopal is an internationally acclaimed smart city builder, Leader, Keynote Speaker and Visionary. She is the Founder President of Foundation for Futuristic Cities, a think tank that has greatly influenced Urban Transformation in India for one & a half decades. Her work is at the intersection of technology and innovation for future cities. Governments of various countries have invited her for opinions on Smart Governance. She has been instrumental in various government projects in India and abroad.

Ms Gopal contributed to the design of the ‘100 Smart Cities Mission’ of India. Her innovation SCULPT YOUR CITY- 2009 (Crowd-Sourced Protocol for Co-Creation) has shaped the Mission guidelines and has been declared a National Best Practice.
In the past, she served as an Urban Expert for The WORLD BANK, DFID (Department for International Development, UK), USAID (United States Agency for International Development) & ADB (Asian Development Bank).

She has received numerous awards and recognitions for her innovation and out-of-the-box ideas. She has served as a mentor, international jury, council member for many national and international organisations. She has launched the India Infrastructure Dialogue Series, Smart Procurement Framework (MoHUA) and many other technology start-ups mentoring the Youth. “ECE in industry” – Talk Series 02

In collaboration with the Department of Corporate Relations & Career Services, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh introduces “ECE in industry” programme, which will comprise of a series of talks by eminent industry experts. The next instalment of the series brings Mr R. Prabakaran, General Manager- Learning and Development, Rane Holdings Limited, Chennai on September 26th, 2020, at 9.30 a.m. Mr Prabakaran will be delivering a talk on “Opportunities and Skills Required for ECE Students”.

Mr Prabakaran has three decades of experience in the industry. He began his career as a Deputy Manager in NTTF Technical Training Centre. Later he has worked for reputed companies such as MM Forgings, Lucas TVS Ltd etc. He was responsible for the skill-building and generating various learning and developing initiatives in metal forming and CNC Machining. He oversaw skill and competency assessment and development across all levels and design ACT., along with working on Total Quality Management. In his present company, he supervises learning and development interventions across Rane Group of Companies pan India. Designing, Planning Resources and Executing leadership and manufacturing capabilities initiatives are some of his primary obligations. It is his vast experience of three decades of successful grooming and developing skills that he will be sharing with the students. Our guest for today, Mr Ramesh Loganathan is a multifaceted personality who is currently appointed as the Professor of Co-Innovation at IIIT-Hyderabad. He heads the Research/Innovation outreach at IIIT-Hyderabad. He also is the Chief Operating Officer of Centre For Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at IIIT-Hyderabad. Previously, he has served as an advisory of Government of Telangana as the Chief Innovation Officer of the State Innovation Cell. Mr Ramesh brings with him almost 25+ years of vast executive leadership experience with a successful track record in running multi-million dollar companies. Moreover, he provided strategic guidance to the teams with a focus on cross-product consideration for SOA & Data Integration. He also Co-founded HeadStart Network, a volunteer organization that helped to build an early-stage startup eco-system in Hyderabad and pan India. Needless to say that he has devised many formula and strategy to innovate and promote new ideas and technology.

As a part of the Orientation Programme-2020, Ms Anita Sakuru will grace us with her presence on September 28, 2020, at 10.45 am. Ms Sakuru is best known for her entrepreneurship and innovation. She was the co-founder of Pragma Inc, an IT consulting firm founded in 1995. Anita served as an Executive Vice President for Kenexa and was instrumental in the IT transformation of the company. She has produced and judged a startup show on TV5 names STartup Junction. The graduate of BITS, Pilani and MBA from Kellogg School of Management, Chicago, Ms Sakuru, is currently a chapter head for 50k ventures, a network that funds startups. SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh’s student-run Ennovab, an Entrepreneurship hub, is organizing an event on October 2: “Hacktoberfest 2020. ” During the event, the participants will be introduced to open source, GitHub, open-source collaboration, and open-source projects. An array of workshops and talks by prominent personalities from various industries is also arranged.

The Hacktoberfest 2020 is a month-long celebration of open source software run by Digital Ocean. It encourages participation in the open-source community, which grows bigger every year. Hacktoberfest 2019 has completed 61,871 challenges and had 483,127 pull requests opened. They also had 154,767 participating repositories from companies such as Intel, Circle CI, Vonage, Indeed, Progate, Freshworks, Cloudflare, Gitcoin, etc.

Students of SRM AP come from different backgrounds with a variety of skills. Hacktoberfest is a great resource for them to increase their participation in open source projects from technology and engineering companies, which advises young and talented students to contribute to the open-source repositories.

SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh unifies to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti by inviting Dr T H Chowdary (Padma Shri awardee) to deliver an inspiring speech. He has been requested to explore “Mahatma Gandhiji’s Successes and Failures” during the webinar. Dr Chowdary is the Director of Center for Telecom Management and Studies, Hyderabad, along with being the Chairman of Pragna Bharati, Telangana & Andhra Pradesh. Further, he is the Convener of Bharatiya Dharma Rakshana Samakhya. A fellow of Tata Consultancy Services, Dr Chowdary has founded CMD, VSNL, and was the IT Advisor of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. His gamut of experience makes him the embodiment of knowledge who has been continuously contributing to the development of India. The other notion might be that with the rapidly changing dynamics of the world, and the development of global networks in the modern age, Gandhiji’s philosophy loses its relevance to the youth. On Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, students of SRM AP are urged to discuss and explore the ideologies of Gandhiji and their relevance in the 21st century.
