Science generates solutions for everyday life and helps us to answer the great mysteries of the universe. Being one of the most important channels of knowledge, Science has a specific role, as well as a variety of functions for the benefit of our society. Thus, the BSc degree programmes at SRM University-AP are designed with a problem-solving approach and endeavours to make our research results relevant and comprehensible to society.

Our Science Programmes cut across the traditional boundaries of disciplines and stretch across the lifecycle of innovation- from research to knowledge development and its application to drive our pursuit of more equitable and sustainable development. In the first year of the BSc degree programme, students are introduced to carefully crafted interdisciplinary courses on the fundamentals of science. Students can choose their areas of specialisation in the following year.

Curriculum

  • Three years program with an optional 4th year by research, in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) -2020. B.Sc.
  • The laboratory classes of 26 credits are designed to provide hands-on experience in applied Physics. The project course of 38 credits and industrial visits will provide exposure in the desired advanced scientific and technological areas.
  • Courses such as Quantum Mechanics, Solid State Physics, High Energy Physics, Statistical Mechanics, Free space and fibre optical communication, and Introduction to Quantum Computation Training in LabVIEW to improve special skills to increase job potential.
  • Multidisciplinary syllabus with courses from humanities as well.

Department

  • All faculty members from renowned Indian and International Institutes and faculty members have international post-doctoral experience and collaborations.
  • Faculty members published 107 research articles with an average impact factor of 5.7. Three patents have been published and one patent has been filed. 11 funded projects including 10 funded by govt. (DST, SERB, BRNS, UGC-DAE, NSM) are ongoing with a total outlay of > 4.4 Crores.
  • All faculty members are involved in training the students to clear National level exams (e.g. IIT-JAM, GATE, JEST and GRE) in addition to their regular curriculum.

    • An innovative research-based curriculum that provides students with outstanding training in a wide display of chemical disciplines including analytical, biological, environmental, inorganic, materials, organic, physical, and theoretical chemistry.
    • Specialise in a minor of choice along with a major in the three-year degree program, an option of fourth year as per NEP, will allow students to pursue higher education in international universities.
    • During the program, all the students will have a chance to work with faculty on cutting edge problems and can have hands-on experience with the research equipment.

    • Established state-of-the-art chemistry labs in key scientific areas such as organic synthesis, material sciences, computational chemistry, and colloidal chemistry.
    • Faculty members have secured 7 research projects worth 3.67 crores from various funding agencies such as DST-SERB, NSM, TARE, and INSPIRE. 1 patent has been published and 1 patent is filed. Published 70 research articles in the highly reputed journals and partnered with a leading firm to set up a joint research centre that will focus on energy and health care.

    • Curriculum design enables academics to go hand in hand with Undergraduate Research Opportunities (UROP), Capstone Projects, individual and interdisciplinary projects, and specializations in fields like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science.

    • The curriculum aims at providing broad and excellent training incorporating the principal ideas in mathematics.
    • Faculty members engaged in diverse fields such as Numerical Solutions to Partial Differential Equations (PDE) and Integral equations, Stability and Optimal control theory, Hydrodynamic instabilities, Spectral Graph theory, Operator theory, Fuzzy set theory and interference mechanism, Diffusion MRI Processing, Computational Geometry of numbers and Algebraic number fields, and Discrete Dynamical systems among others.

    • All the faculty members have PhD from leading institutions like IITs, IISc, ISI, CMI, and reputed Indian and foreign universities. In addition, most of the faculty have international experience in research and teaching. About a dozen research scholars volunteer to take tutorial classes for the students.
    • A total of 28 publications, 4 book chapters, 8 conference proceedings and 2 funded projects (SERB) with a total outlay of 26. 67 lacs to date.
    • Access to MathSciNet database of research reviews, besides numerous journals and books on diverse mathematical topics.
    • The department hosts a weekly seminar on various research themes and arranges the “Distinguished Lectures” series by eminent mathematicians.
