Dr Ugen BhutiaGreetings!

I am pleased to welcome you to the Department of Liberal Arts, Easwari School of Liberal Arts, at SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh. The Department of Liberal Arts is a place for intellectually curious students who do not want their inquisitiveness to be limited by disciplinary boundaries.

The department has an interdisciplinary approach in its pedagogy. We are committed to cultivating a healthy and vibrant academic culture among students, scholars, and faculty members. The Liberal Arts curriculum helps students develop co-learning, rational and critical thinking skills, scholarly growth, communication of thoughts, and effective decision-making.

These skills and experiences cultivate the mind and help students become good and responsible humans with respect for diversity. The curriculum encourages students to emerge as leaders who can contribute locally and globally to societies. The primary focus is on project-based learning and research-based education.

The Department of Liberal Arts at SRM University-AP is one of the leading departments with faculties from diverse academic backgrounds, including anthropology, journalism and media studies, philosophy, political science, sociology and public health. With such an amalgamation of diverse faculties, our team offers a vibrant academic culture with an excellent curriculum that is at par with other top global and national universities and expands the horizon for students in both career prospects and higher studies.

The four-year degree program is designed to suit the interests of those students who plan to study abroad for PG programs in various social science disciplines. The students will have an opportunity to submit a BA thesis in the fourth year, which is a prerequisite for applying to premier universities in Europe and America.

The Department's pedagogical methods include using modern educational technologies like smart boards (smart screens) for classroom lectures and presentations. The major focus is on active learning to engage students with the course material through discussions, problem-solving, case studies, fieldwork-based learning, etc. Students are encouraged to participate in lectures actively. Project-based learning allows the students to work on their area of interest while being guided by experts from the department. The Department also provides an opportunity for the students to collaborate with the teachers to carry out research and other research-based activities.

All the best!

Dr Bikku
