Centre for Pioneering Studies in Gold and Silver

About the Centre

The Centre for Pioneering Studies in Gold and Silver is a dedicated research centre aimed at studying the metallurgy of gold and silver alloys. The centre, with a group of scientists from various disciplines such as Physics, Chemistry, Materials & Metallurgy, and Manufacturing, works extensively in the following areas:

  • Manufacturing solution to jewellery Manufacturing Industries
  • Develop novel processing techniques for lightweight and high strength gold alloys
  • Corrosion and tarnish studies
  • Surface engineering and coating techniques for jewellery concerning corrosion and tarnish protections
  • Exploring application for gold leaves
  • Jewelleries in 24-Karat gold
  • High tarnish resistance silver alloys
  • Novel colour gold alloys
  • Structure-property correlation studies of gold and silver alloys.

The centre was inaugurated on November 8, 2021, by Dr V K Sarawat, Hon’ble member Niti Ayog, in the august presence of the Pro-Chancellor
Dr P Sathyanarayanan; Vice-Chancellor (Former) V S Rao;
and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. D Narayana Rao.

Research Head

The Centre is led by Prof. G S Vinod Kumar, Department of Mechanical Engineering. SRM University-AP has six and more years of experience handling industry-sponsored research projects, particularly in gold and silver alloys. Dr Vinod Kumar has successfully completed flagship projects and consultancy projects from Titan Company Ltd, Hosur, in Gold, Silver and Brass. He has expertise in handling Gold and Silver with utmost care and can retain almost 100% of the metal scrapped during the process.
