International Admissions

Categories

Students from foreign countries will generally be admitted in the beginning of each academic year. However, students can also be admitted under Exchange Programs which are covered by special collaborative arrangements or Memorandum of Understanding.

Admissions are based purely on the candidate's performance in the 10 + 2 or equivalent examination and satisfying the guidelines of respective councils governing the Engineering, Medicine and Health Sciences, Architecture education. The admission procedure, application form and fees are different from domestic students applying
under admissions India category. It is therefore important to take great care to visit the appropriate link meant only for International students. International students are exemptfrom taking the SRM Entrance Examination.

However, NRI/PIO/OCI candidates may apply for engineering admission through the SRMJEEE exam, and qualify for paying the domestic fees in rupees for the entire duration of the course.

Categories of International Students

Foreign Students

Students holding passport issued by foreign countries including people of Indian origin who have acquired the nationality of foreign countries.

Non-Resident Indians (NRI)

Non-Resident Indian students who have studied and passed the qualifying examinations (11th and 12th) from schools or colleges situated in foreign countries (even if affiliated to the Boards of Secondary Education or Universities located in India). Dependants of NRI's studying in India will not be included as NRI students.

NRI Sponsored Students

Students are Indian citizens, whose immediate family member (Parents, Grand Parents or student's siblings) is an NRI. Once the student is admitted under this category no change in status can be made during the study period even if the status of the sponsor changes

PIO card holders

A Person of Indian Origin (PIO) means a foreign citizen (except a national of Pakistan, Afghanistan Bangladesh, China, Iran, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Nepal) who at any time held an Indian passport Or who or either of their parents/ grandparents/ great grandparents was born and permanently resident in India as defined in Government of India Act, 1935 and other territories that became part of India thereafter provided neither was at any time a citizen of any of the aforesaid countries ( as referred above); Or Who is a spouse of a citizen of India or a PIO

OCI

A foreign national, who was eligible to become citizen of India on 26.01.1950 or was a citizen of India on or at any time after 26.01.1950 or belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15.08.1947 is eligible for registration as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI). Minor children of such person are also eligible for OCI. However, if the applicant had ever been a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh, he/she will not be eligible for OCI.

Who Can Apply?

Foreign nationals, PIO card holders, OCI (Dual citizens), NRI students, and NRI sponsored students can apply under the category of International students. 15% of the seats are reserved under this category. PIO and OCI card holders will only be considered equivalent to NRI students as far as education is concerned.
