About Research Day

Research Day 2021 will be celebrated in SRM University-AP, Andhra Pradesh on January 30, 2021. It is an excellent opportunity for all the faculty members, research scholars and students to exchange and exhibit their ideas on research. Research abstracts are invited on innovative topics from the faculty members, research scholars and undergraduate students of our University. Registration is free and all are requested to register for the Research Day.

  • Gold and Silver Medals for Best Research Work
  • Special Issue of a journal is planned
  • Two student projects will be supported

Research Day 2021 will be graced by the esteemed presence of Sri S Somanath as the Chief Guest. Sri Somanath is the Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). He is an expert in the area of system engineering of Launch vehicles. He made contributions in PSLV and GSLV MkIII in their overall architecture, propulsion systems, structural and structural dynamics, separation systems, vehicle integration and integration procedures development. As a Director, he is bringing into the organisation new developments and innovations. He has initiated various new R&D developments as well as facility up-gradation initiatives in VSSC.

For his extraordinary contribution, Shri Somanath has earned himself many awards and recognitions. He was the recipient of the ‘Merit Award’, ‘Performance Excellence award’ and Outstanding Achievement Award” from ISRO and a ‘Team excellence award’ for GSLV Mk-III development. He received, the “Janasewa Award 2018” instituted by Sivaparvathy Cultural Society, “Marthoma Educational Technical Training & Research Centre Award-2018” instituted by Marthoma College of Science & Technology, “Lifetime Achievement Award instituted by TKM College Trust, Kollam and “Platinum Jubilee Award” from Aerospace Department of IISc Bangalore. He is the recipient of the ‘Space Gold Medal’ from Astronautical Society of India. He is the recipient of the “National Aeronautics Prize” by The Aeronautical Society of India for the year 2018. He was awarded Doctor of Philosophy, Honoris Causa by Sathyabama Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai.

He is a Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Fellow of Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI), Astronautical Society of India (ASI) and a Member of International Academy of Astronautics (IAA). He is the Vice President of International Astronautical Federation (IAF) in charge of the technical activities. Shri Somanath has widely travelled as delegate and representative of India in UN-COPOUS at Vienna, many space agencies and establishments across the world and International Astronautical Federation (IAF)’s International Programs in various countries.

He has published papers in journals & seminars in the area of structural dynamics and control, dynamic analysis of separation mechanisms, vibration & acoustic testing, launch vehicle design and launch services management.

Guidelines

  1. Duration of your presentation: 7minutes presentation + 3 minutes Q&A. PPT is the preferred mode of presentation
  2. Do not prepare more than 10 Slides. This includes title slide to thank you.
  3. Have a title slide: This slide should include title, authors (presenting author identified as *), and department affiliation.
  4. Objective / Motivation slide: What are the objectives of this work that you're presenting? / for undergraduates, what
    motivated you to address this topic/problem?
  5. Review of literature slide: What has been done so far by peer groups in scientific literature, how your work is different
    from what has been done before?
  6. Research / Idea: Explain your research with adequate methodologies, results or idea on how you will find a solution.
  7. Conclusion: What is your key finding out of your research/idea? What are the ways this idea/ research could be carried
    forward? How do you plan to do it?
  8. There will be three judges who will evaluate your work and presentation. Winners will be announced on the Research Day
    Event (29th Jan).
  9. Classrooms for presentation in their respective thematic areas will be informed later.
