Abstract and E-Poster Guidelines

The iCRISPR-2021 organising committee invites all interested individuals to submit a scientific abstract and an accompanying graphical abstract for an e-poster presentation related to the following topics:

  1. CRISPR/Cas in Therapeutics
  2. CRISPR/Cas in Diagnostics
  3. CRISPR/Cas in Agriculture and Animal Biotechnology
  4. Biology of CRISPR/Cas systems - experimental to computational
  5. CRISPR/Cas in Fundamental Research
  6. Ethics and/or Policy related to CRISPR/Cas-based Genome Editing

Abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee and a select few will be shortlisted for oral presentations. Notification of acceptance for an oral presentation will be sent to the Presenter's e-mail address along with presentation guidelines.

All abstracts will be included in the online abstract booklet that will be distributed to conference participants. A certificate will also be provided stating that the participant presented a short talk or an e-poster.

Importantly, the e-poster presentations will be reviewed by an expert panel and cash prizes of Rs. 3000, Rs. 2000 and Rs. 1000 will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners, respectively.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

When submitting your abstract as a word document or pdf during the registration process, please follow the guidelines below:

  1. Each submission should contain a Title, List of Authors including affiliations, and a Scientific Abstract
  2. The submitting author should be listed as the First Author
  3. Word limit of Scientific Abstract = 300 words
  4. The Abstract should contain an introductory statement that outlines the background and significance of the study followed by a succinct description of the basic methodologies, a clear indication of the major findings of the study and a concluding statement.
  5. File name for upload = Topic_Full-Name-of-presenter, where topic corresponds to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 as listed above. Note that submissions that are not labelled according to the specified format may not be considered.
  6. Only one abstract is allowed per submitting author, but the submitting author can be a co-author on another abstract.

Graphical abstract Guidelines

It is said, a picture is worth a thousand words! Therefore, in addition to the scientific abstract, all participants are encouraged to submit a graphical abstract as a single image. This will be posted on the conference twitter handle*, so we recommend that the graphical abstract to be in layman/non-expert language as much as possible, thus enabling outreach and public engagement.

The graphical abstract should be a single image, which may contain several parts. It helps the potential reader visualize the main process(es) or concepts, and key relationships among the elements that are being presented; it focusses on the central idea and 'brings it to life'.

More information about graphical abstract formats along with examples is available here:

https://www.annaclemens.com/blog/make-graphical-abstract-paper

The guidelines for the graphical abstract are as follows:

  1. The graphical abstract should be uploaded as a separate file during the registration process.
  2. File name for upload = Graphic_Abstract_Full-Name-of-presenter
  3. Image format = jpeg or png
  4. Image size = a minimum of 1328 x 531 pixels (w x h) using a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. If you are submitting a larger image, please use the same ratio (500 wide x 200 high).
  5. Maximum file size = 10 MB
  6. For ease of browsing, the graphical abstract should have a clear start and end, preferably "reading" from top to bottom or left to right. It can also be a single image summarizing the work that is being presented.
  7. Distracting and cluttering elements should be reduced as much as possible, as should be white space and words (recommended number of words is less than 30).
  8. Just as each scientific abstract should be unique, so should each graphical abstract. Plagiarised images will be disqualified.

*Note that the graphical abstracts will be reviewed by an expert panel and cash prizes of Rs. 2000, Rs. 1500 and Rs. 1000 will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners, respectively.
