1. Computational Materials Science (Q1 Journal, IF: 3.3)

Special Issue title: Low Dimensional Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage: Theoretical Perspectives

The problem becomes mammoth, when we need to define a general descriptor for a material with different composition, shape, size which can explain and predict the new materials for energy conversion and storage. Here the fundamental research is much needed to fill the gap. Without understanding the correct electronic structure and its correlation with activity for various chemical reactions, we can never design the best catalyst in cost-effective way. Till date trial and error method has been used to synthesize the materials, but now computational driven efficient solution is possible. Quantum mechanics based calculations followed by machine learning (QM/ML) is proposed as the approach to solve the large probabilistic problems. The database followed by ML tools for descriptor identification could surpass human intuition and provide the general descriptor to find the best catalyst combination. It is also possible that ML tools could combine known descriptors in unintuitive ways to produce a single, more accurate descriptor. ML approaches can help in identifying active catalyst. The method is new and our target is to extrapolate the DFT based results into more predictive way to find the materials for energy conversion and storage in this special issue

2. Catalysis Today (Q1 Journal, IF: 5.3)

Special Issue title: Low Dimensional Inorganic Materials as Electrocatalysts: Experimental and Theoretical Perspectives

The focus of the special issue is on the following topic

  • Low Dimensional Inorganic Electrocatalyst for CO2ER/HER
  • Low Dimensional Inorganic Electrocatalyst for Nitrogen based Product

Low-dimensional inorganic materials encompass a diverse array of structures, including single-atom catalysts, nanoparticles, one-dimensional materials, and two-dimensional materials. Single-atom catalysts, offer precise control over catalytic sites and enhancing efficiency due to localization effect. Nanoparticles, with dimensions typically in the nanometer range, exhibit quantum effects and increased surface area, making them versatile for catalytic reactions. One-dimensional materials, such as nanowires or nanotubes, display extraordinary properties along a single axis, providing opportunities for tailored functionalities. Two-dimensional materials, such as graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), exhibit unique properties due to their flat, single-layer structure.
