Crevices of Interdisciplinary Research in English Literature and Languages

Organised by Department of Literature and Languages

Concept Note

The study of English literature and language has long been considered a separate academic field. However, the limits of English studies are growing because of cultural shifts, technological advancements, and the growing complexity of global challenges. To investigate and comprehend the complex relationships between literature, culture, history, linguistics, psychology, philosophy, media, and other fields, interdisciplinary research in English language and literature is now crucial. Researchers and educators in the sector need to conduct interdisciplinary research that crosses conventional disciplinary boundaries if they want to stay at the forefront of scholarly endeavour. By doing this, they provide access to deeper, more thorough readings and analyses of language, literary works, and cultural occurrences.

By exploring cutting-edge interdisciplinary approaches to English language and literature research, this Faculty Development Program (FDP) will give faculty members the tools they need to support and conduct interdisciplinary studies, improving their research outputs and instructional strategies.

Primary Objectives of this FDP

The Primary Objectives of this FDP are:

  • Promote Interdisciplinary Research Approaches: To introduce faculty members to the significance and methodologies of interdisciplinary research in the fields of English Language and Literature.
  • Enhance Research Skills: Equip participants with the tools to integrate concepts and methods from multiple disciplines, creating more holistic and innovative research in English studies.
  • Foster Collaborative Research: Encourage collaboration between faculty members from diverse fields such as linguistics, cultural studies, history, media studies, and more.
  • Stimulate Creative Scholarly Inquiry: Inspire new directions in research by combining literary analysis with other disciplinary perspectives, encouraging creativity and critical thinking.
  • Strengthen Pedagogical Research: Help faculty members understand how interdisciplinary research in literature and language can enhance teaching, especially in higher education contexts.

The FDP will employ talks by renowned scholars in literature, linguistics, cultural studies, and other interdisciplinary fields that inform English studies.
