A hearty welcome to the Department of Biological Sciences, SRM University AP, Andhra Pradesh. The department offers 3+1 degree program (3 year BSc (Hons) degree in Integrative Biology plus one year diploma program) and PhD degree program. Besides, the department also offers minor program in biology, allied courses and elective courses to students of other bachelor degree programs, viz, BTech, BA and BSc degree programs of the University

Our BSc (Hons) degree program is a unique and comprehensive program designed to impart theoretical and practical training encompassing all the major contemporary subjects in Biology covering Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Disease biology, Genetic engineering, biotechnology, animal and plant physiology, disease biology etc. Our intensive training confers the student to be competitive for higher studies and to cater to the needs of bio-industries, teaching and research. To broaden the knowledge horizon, all undergraduate students are required to study to study 6 foundation courses encompassing English, History, Environmental Science, Psychology and Statistics. The students have the opportunity to study elective courses of their choice, offered by other departments in the School of Liberal Arts and Basic Sciences. This will help our students to widen their knowledge base in multiple disciplines to broaden their job opportunities.

All our faculty members have excellent academic credentials having educated and trained in cutting edge research at reputed Indian and International institutes/universities. Hence, our theoretical and experimental training is flavoured with a tinge of research and inquisitive orientation. The students will have ample opportunities for exposure to research directly in the laboratories of the faculty members and are encouraged to undertake various research projects within the department as well as to apply for internship/visit in other research Institutes. The research interests in the Department of Biological Sciences are as diverse as one would expect in a thriving research program, encompassing one or more of the following categories: clinical biotechnology related to aging, cancer and cardiovascular diseases, fundamental and applied disease biology to address viral, bacterial and protozoan pathogenesis, biology of CRISPR-CAS-mediated communications between virus and bacteria, and algal biology to meet the challenges of alternative green energy and food sources. Our research contributions through journal publications have been significant, leading to a patents.

Apart from generous in-house funding, the department has been successful in receiving considerable funding from funding agencies such as Department of Biotechnology (DBT), and Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, which has helped us to set up a modern facilities for biology research. Further, our faculty members are well equipped to provide outstanding training to PhD students and post-doctoral fellows.
