Prof D. Narayana Rao is a renowned scientist in the field of Atmospheric Sciences and Radar Technology.

In his career spanning over four decades, he has been widely recognized for building institutions of excellence both in research and academia. Prof. Narayana Rao began his career in academics at Sri. Venkateswara University, Tirupati, where between 1975 to 2002, he taught Physics. He also carried out several major research projects sponsored by Science Department and Agencies of Govt. of India like DST, CSIR, MoES (Formerly DOD), MIT(Formerly DOE),ISRO, and UGC.

Prof. Ranjit Thapa did his Ph.D. from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India in 2011. He worked as a postdoctoral research associate at Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (2011-2012), and as a postdoctoral fellow at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, South Korea (2012-2013).

He joined SRM Research Institute, SRMIST as Assistant Professor in the year 2013. In the same institute he served as an Associate Professor during the year 2017 to 2019. He is an Associate of Indian Academy of Sciences (2016-2019). He is awarded with DAE-BRNS Young Scientist Research Award in the year 2018. He is an active member of Asian Consortium on Computational Materials Science (ACCMS). Three students have completed their Ph.D. under his guidance. He has four major projects under SERB-DST, BRNS, and MNRE. Prof. Ranjit Thapa has joined the Department of Physics, SRM University-AP, Amaravati in May 2019 as a Professor.

The research works of Prof. Ranjit Thapa are primarily focused on the first-principles investigation of materials for energy and the environment. The important contributions are “Exchange mechanism for spillover of hydrogen” and “dehydrogenation of hydrogen”. The main contributions are: “Bond exchange spillover mechanism”, “electron-doped 2D system as a metal free catalyst”, “the origin of surface magnetism in graphene”, “Homonuclear boron bond at the catalytic and active center”. Prof. Ranjit proposed Thin oxide overlayer (ex: MgO) on a metal surface, an inverse catalyst. The mystery behind the reactivity of doped defective graphene-based metal-free electrocatalysts is unveiled using density functional theory. The enhanced activity is linked to the π orbital occupation of active sites, the configuration of atomic oxygen (enolate and epoxy) on the graphene plane and to the localized π states in the case of defects. The π orbital occupation is identifying as “Descriptor”. Prof. Ranjit is currently interested in designing and developing of materials database for energy and environmental applications. His current goal is to apply the method of machine learning on the DFT data available in the web-based database https://energymaterials.org, to solve the energy and environment problem in a more efficient way.

Dr Goutam Kumar Dalapati received M.Sc. degree in electronics science from the University of Calcutta, Calcutta, India, in 2000. He has been awarded PhD from the Jadavpur University, Calcutta, in 2005.

From 2004 to 2005, he had worked as Research Associate at the Microelectronics Technology Group, School of Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering, University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, U.K. He has also worked as postdoctoral fellow at Silicon Nano Device Laboratory, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore, Singapore, on advanced gate stack using high-κ gate dielectrics and high mobility channel materials. During 2007-2018, he was attached with the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), A*STAR, (Agency for Science, Technology and Research) Singapore as a scientist.

Dr Goutam Kumar Dalapati joined the Department of Physics, SRM University-AP, Amaravati as an Associate Professor.

His key research interests and current industrial engagements are in the areas of thin film technology, smart coating for energy saving window, renewable energy, and flexible electronics. His research works focus on the development of thin film solar cells, heat mirror, heterogeneous integration, surface passivation, optical and electronic devices.

Dr Sabyasachi Mukhopadhyay did his Ph.D. (in 2012) from Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore, India. He joined Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel for his postdoctoral research (2013-2016) and he was a recipient of a PBC PD Fellowship for 2013. He also worked as a visiting Scientist in Innovation Lab GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany. Dr. Mukhopadhyay is currently appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics, SRM University-AP, Amaravati.

His research interests include developing advanced instrumentation and electronic characterization techniques to understand electron transport processes across various molecules and thin films towards efficient energy conversion applications.

Dr Gangi Reddy Salla got his PhD (in 2016) from Physical Research laboratory, Ahmedabad, India. He has postdoctoral research experience from the University of Electro-Communications, Tokyo, Japan.

His main research focus lies in classical and quantum optical vortex beams, free space optical communication with vector vortex beams, Polarization speckles and Mueller polarimetry.

Dr Pranab Mandal obtained his PhD (in 2012) from Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore, India. Then he went to the University of Liverpool, UK and worked as a postdoctoral research associate (2012-2017).Dr. Mandal is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics, SRM University-AP, Amaravati.

His research areas include piezoelectric and ferroelectrics, Magnetoelectric, multiferroics, Complex magnetism, High-k dielectrics, and thermoelectric materials.

Dr Jatis Kumar Dash received his PhD (in 2012) from Institute of Physics (IOP), Bhubaneswar under the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India. Then he moved to Dept. of Physics, Applied Physics and Astronomy, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), New York, USA for his postdoctoral research (2012-2015).

He joined Dept. of Materials Science and Engineering, Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea as a Korea research Fellow (KRF) awarded by the National Research Foundation, Korea in the year 2016. Dr Dash is currently working an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics, SRM University-AP, Amaravati.

His research areas mainly focus on experimental Condensed matter Physics, in particular, surface and interface Physics, epitaxial growth of large area two-dimensional (2D) materials (TMDs, TMOs and Mxenes) heterostructures and their device applications, i.e. field-effect transistors (FETs), photodetectors, sensors, supercapacitors etc.

Dr Laxmi Narayana Patro obtained his PhD (in 2011) from IIT Madras, India. He worked in Seoul National University, Seoul, South Korea (March 2012-August 2013) and University of Marburg, Marburg, Germany (2014-2016) as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. He has two years of teaching experience from GITAM University, Bangalore, India.

Dr Laxmi Narayana Patro joined the Department of Physics, SRM University-AP, Amaravati as an Assistant Professor. His key areas of research include fast ion conducting materials and their applications in solid state ionic devices, ionic liquids, glasses, impedance spectroscopy, high field ionic conductivity (nonlinear ionic conductivity).

Dr. Soumyajyoti Biswas did his Ph. D. from Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata in 2015. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai till April, 2015.

Following that he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Earthquake Research Institute, University of Tokyo. He worked in the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization, Goettingen between October 2015 – October 2018. For the first two years he received the Alexander von Humboldt fellowship. Between November 2018 – April 2019 he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Friedrich-Alexander-University, Fuerth. In May 2019 he joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics in SRM University AP, Amaravati.

His research interests include statistical physics of driven disordered systems in general, and fracture and breakdown properties in particular. He uses generic threshold activated models in capturing the universal nature of the fracture dynamics of disordered samples. He uses Monte Carlo simulations, analytical calculations and Machine Learning techniques in understanding the dynamics of the models. Dr Mallikarjuna Rao Motapothula did his PhD (in 2013) from National University of Singapore, Singapore. He joined Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Institute (NUSNNI), Singapore (2013-2017) and Uppsala University, Sweden (2017-2018) for his postdoctoral research. He is a recipient of the prestigious DST-Inspire Faculty award (2018-2023).

He worked at Department of Physics, University of Hyderabad for a brief period (6 months) before joining SRM. He also worked as a technical consultant to the development of an educational website on Radiation Damage in materials in the Knowledge Portal of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) (2014-15). Dr Mallikarjuna is currently appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics, SRM University-AP, Amaravati.

His research focuses on Soft ionization mass spectroscopy (In-situ quantification of ppt level gaseous molecules in ambient air), Functional epitaxial oxide thin films, fabrication and imaging of surface and sub-surface nanostructures using low, medium and high energy focused ion beams. Ion beam analysis, Sub-nm depth resolution backscattering spectrometry, Ion induced desorption and photon emission for embedded trace impurities, Experimental deduction of accurate inter-atomic potentials, stopping powers, elemental imaging of biological cells. Ion Channeling in nano-structures.

Dr. Siddhartha Ghosh obtained his PhD from the Physics Department at the University of Florida, USA in 2012 under Prof. Arthur F. Hebard. Subsequently Dr. Ghosh was a postdoctoral research fellow in NUS Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Institute (NUSNNI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) (2013-2019) working with Prof. T. Venkatesan.

In June 2019 Dr. Ghosh has joined the department of Physics in SRM University AP, Amaravati as an Assistant Professor.

His central research interests revolve around the study of exotic phenomena at the bulk, thin-film and interfaces of transition metal oxide (TMO) & rare-earth oxide (REO) systems, while he is also recently interested on the growth and study of 2D-TMDC and oxide/2D-TMDC hetero-structures using Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) technique. Apart from working on the physics of novel interfaces, Dr. Ghosh also takes deep interest as well as have significant experience in setting up and operation of complex in-situ instruments.
