Bertil Andersson comes on board SRM Amaravati campus as hon’ry Pro Chancellor

Amaravati, Feb 12 (UNI) Professor Bertil Andersson, President Emeritus of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) has been appointed as the Honorary Pro Chancellor of SRM University, AP, Amaravati campus.

Dr. Bertil Andersson also joins SRM University, Amaravati’s Board of Governors.

An SRM university release here on Monday said that Prof Andersson served as NTU’s third President from July 2011 until December 2017, after being the University’s Provost from 2007. In his term as President, he played a pivotal role in helping NTU to become the No.1 ranked institution in Asia.

He is a world-renowned plant biochemist from Sweden with a longstanding association with the Nobel Foundation that includes chairing its chemistry committee. He has also pioneered research on the artificial leaf, a promising area of sustainable energy research that uses sunlight to produce clean, low-cost sources of energy.

Prof Andersson has authored more than 300 papers in basic photosynthesis covering topics from photo system structure to biological membranes and light stress in plants, with more than 14,000 citations.

At SRM University, Amaravati campus, Prof. Andersson will primarily focus on establishing strategic direction for the institution along with developing research specific orientation. He will also support the institution’s international endeavour and help SRM AP establish a strong footprint globally.
