SRM University-AP celebrated 75 years of India’s Independence
SRM University-AP celebrated the 75th Independence Anniversary of the nation in all its pomp and glory. As India has surpassed 75 years of independence and is propelling towards a glorious future of many more accomplishments, the nation was painted with the colours of courage, peace, and prosperity as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign launched by the Prime Minister. In keeping with the vibe and vigour of freedom celebrations resonating all over the nation, the SRMAP NSS unit and the Department of Student Affairs visited houses in the nearby villages to promote the campaign.
The celebrations started off with the hoisting of the National Flag ceremony by the honourable Vice-Chancellor Prof VS Rao. He conveyed his Independence Day greetings to all and paid homage to all the brave warriors of our nation including Mahatma Gandhi, Subash Chandra Bose, Chandra Shekhar Azad, and all other known and unknown heroes of the land who lived, fought, and died for the nation.
Prof V S Rao also highlighted the role of Science & Technology in taking the country forward along the paths of sustainable and inclusive development. ”From green revolution and nuclear technology to our space missions, entrepreneurial evolution, and contribution to covid abatement, Science & Technology has effectively spread to every possible sector”, he remarked. He urged the student community to mould themselves up to be active collaborators in the process of nation-making. He also accentuated that SRM-AP is replete with opportunities for students to navigate their skills in all possible ways.
Students staged a colourful array of cultural programmes including songs and dance performances expressing their patriotic spirits. Prof VS Rao felicitated students who have brought laurels to the institute for their outstanding skills in various curricular and extra-curricular activities. Certificates were distributed to the participants of the Blood Donation camp. And the celebration came to a closure with the prize distribution ceremony to the winners of various games and sports events conducted on campus as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

SRM AP observes Prerana Vanam on Founder’s Day
SRM University-AP celebrated the birthday of Founder Chancellor Dr T R Paarivendhar as Founder’s Day on August 24, 2022. The university observed Prerana Vanam and planted trees in the nearby village, Neerukonda, as a part of the celebrations. Prof V S Rao, Vice-Chancellor; and Dr R Premkumar, Registrar; addressed the gathering.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof V S Rao commended the services rendered by Dr T R Paarivendhar for the progress of the education sector. He advised the students to move forward by taking inspiration from the Chancellor. Speaking on the occasion, Deans and Directors paid tributes to the leadership of Hon’ble Chancellor. They further explicated the benefits of growing trees and how that sustainably contributes to the oxygen level in the atmosphere.
Prerana Vanam is an initiative by SRM University-AP to fundamentally raise awareness among people about the importance of ecosystem preservation. The formal event held at the university campus was attended by students, staff, and faculty members of the university. The celebration continued with the students visiting and distributing fruits at an Old Age Home and Orphanage in Mangalagiri. Prof V S Rao lauded the gesture of the students that extends services to society.

SRM University-AP celebrated Teachers’ Day 2022
Teachers’ day is celebrated across the length and breadth of the nation on September 05, to honour and pay tributes to the second president of India, the renowned scholar and great philosopher, Dr S Radhakrishnan. SRM University-AP observed the day with utmost pride and the students marked gratitude to their beloved teachers.
Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Prof VS Rao, addressed the gathering of teachers and students. He reiterated the significance of the day and acknowledged the invaluable services of all faculty members. “I’m immensely proud of your achievements as educators and researchers. You have stood side by side with our children, led them with courage and passion, and believed in the prodigious potential of each of them. Your role in nurturing and growing them up is undeniable”, remarked Prof Rao.
A felicitation ceremony was organised to recognise the enormous contributions and extensive services rendered by the faculty who have been a part of SRM University-AP for the past five years. Mementoes were distributed, and the faculty were honoured by Vice-Chancellor Prof VS Rao and Registrar Dr R Premkumar. The teachers thanked the Vice-Chancellor and conveyed their admiration for his able guidance and the administration of the university for the last two years.
An array of cultural programmes and events was put up in the auditorium by the students to celebrate the day. Vice-Chancellor in his address to students appreciated their efforts in making the teachers’ day celebration a memorable occasion. With a colourful mix of dance and musical performances, the day was brought to a delightful closure.

ROM 2022: Relay run of 487 km for child safety flagged off
SRM University-AP flagged off a 487 km relay run with a flaming torch that will be concluded at SRM KTR campus on September 8, World Physiotherapy Day. “This group of 90 runners will set a record and inspire the people they meet on their way”, said Prof. K Hemachandra Reddy, Chairman, Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education, igniting the torch that mirrors the Olympic torch.
SRM AP Vice-Chancellor Prof V S Rao expressed his delight to host the starting point of ROM (Resounding Overnight Momentous) 2022: THE PHYSIO RUN. “We are fortunate to be a part of making history by raising awareness for child safety and environment protection”, he added, flagging off the run. “The team spirit of these young runners is strong enough to bring out social changes”, said Professor Lt Col Arunachalam Ravikumar, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Medical & Health Sciences, appreciating the event. Dr T.S Veeragoudhaman, Dean, School of Physiotherapy, highlighted the functional independency that physiotherapy provides. Official Records Officer- World Records Union, Ms Shareefa, said that it is the responsibility of civilised citizens to promote national and community-level child protection systems.
Last year, the “Longest relay run with a flaming torch”, covering 280 km from the SRM Trichy campus to the SRM Kattankulathur campus, found a place in the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records. This year, the torch that is lighted from the SRM AP campus will be passed on for 487 km until it is brought into the SRM Kattankulathur campus. The ignited torch carried onwards during the run will use the mother flame throughout the entire course until it reaches its destination and would not be extinguished at any given time or situation. The torch would only be kept alive with natural ingredients.
World Physiotherapy Day marks the unity and solidarity of the global physiotherapy community. SRM College of Physiotherapy and SRM Institute of Science and Technology Kattankulathur jointly organised this event to raise awareness on relevant issues like child safety, child disability and conservation of the environment. SRM AP Registrar Dr R Premkumar, Dean-School of Engineering and Sciences Prof B V Babu, Assistant Director- Student Affairs Ms Revathi Balakrishnan and many other dignitaries from SRM group institutions were present at the occasion.

Onam celebration at its finest
Onam is one of the grand festivals of Kerala, celebrated with ardent fervor by Malayalis all over the world every year for ten long days. Regional festivals are gaining a lot of attention beyond geographical boundaries as university campuses are getting more diverse. One of the many things that ignite the glory of SRM University- AP is the way it embraces different cultures with paramount importance. Students and Faculty of the institution got together in traditional attires on Wednesday to celebrate Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, organised by the Department of Student Affairs.
Honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof V S Rao addressed the gathering and wished a prosperous Onam to the faculty and students. “It is an immense pleasure to celebrate Onam at a time when I am about to complete my 44 years of service in higher education”, said Prof V S Rao as he recollected his years of memories connected with Onam celebrations. Students were all ears when he described the historical scenario behind the celebration.
A large Pookkalam, welcomed students to the celebration. At the beginning of the event, a brief introduction to the historical and cultural significance of Onam was given by students. Energetic performances lifted the overall mood of the celebration. A video showcasing the exquisite aura of life in Kerala at the time of Onam was played. Payasam was distributed to all. The insights shared through the celebration for sure carved a beautiful memory of Onam in everyone.

Community training on CPR at SRM University- AP
SRM University- AP in collaboration with AIIMS Mangalagiri and the American Heart Association, organised community training on CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – Hands-only CPR) on World Heart Day – September 29, 2022. The training programme with the slogan ‘Your Hands Can Save The Lives’, was designed to generate perception on the significance of CPR in sustaining a life at a crucial medical instance. Dr C H Lakshmi Rajyam, Medical Officer, SRM AP addressed the gathering on the importance of heart health and CPR training.
Community Training on hands-only CPR held by the university aimed to educate participants on the essential skill of performing Hands-Only CPR to sustain life until advanced help arrives by artificially circulating oxygen to the brain. Trainers from AIIMS conducted the session through simulation mode with one mannequin per person. The methodology of proper implementation of CPR during an emergency was conveyed through a video-supported practical session.
The World Heart Day is celebrated on September 29 to create awareness on the importance of heart health and prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). CVDs is one of the leading causes of death claiming approximately 18.6 million lives every year globally. The theme for World Heart Day for 2022 is “Use Heart for Every Heart.”
World Heart Day celebrations at SRM AP promotes the idea of heart health as a fundamental human right and an essential component of global health justice.

New student orientation: Interaction with Vice-Chancellor
Transition from an admitted student to a committed student ready to succeed!
SRM University-AP welcomed students to campus on Monday, October 10, 2022, in an event that commenced at the APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium. The interactive session with Vice-Chancellor Prof Manoj K Arora aimed for the smooth transition of incoming students to university life.
Students shared their goals and aspirations about the future on the occasion. “I want to be a rocket scientist who’s also a musician”, said Dhruv, a first year Mechanical engineering student. Vinisha, a student from BSc Integrative Biology expressed her dream of becoming a molecular biologist and winning Nobel Prize in future. Several other students also talked enthusiastically about their career goals such as becoming an IAS officer, game developer, artist, software engineer etc. Prof Arora encouraged students to work towards their goals and elucidated how SRM AP can guide them in achieving those lofty goals.

Aloha 2022: The magnificent fresher’s day celebration at SRM AP
Senior students of SRM University-AP received the newcomers with a grand welcome party on November 25 and 26, 2022. The two-day-long celebrations were immaculate and encapsulated the radiant aura of the new-age university.
Enthralling games, incredible performances, mouth-watering food stalls, booming music, and the brightest grins precisely describe Aloha 2022, the fresher’s day celebrations. Newcomers were welcomed to the festivity of SRM AP with the warmest colours and loudest cheers!
Honourable Vice Chancellor of SRM University- AP, Prof Manoj K Arora, inaugurated the event and asked the students to fully revel in the celebrations. All the faculty, staff and leadership members were also present at the festive occasion to welcome the brand-new batch of students to the campus.
A wide array of entertainment programmes was organised as part of the wholesome event. Students took over the stage by dancing to hype songs and singing their hearts out on both days of the event. The highlight of the event’s second day was the Mr&Ms Freshers contest. The vibe of the fresher’s party reached its peak with the vibrant DJ party filled with loud cheers and solid beats.
Cubing context, Tug of war, crossword, pop culture quiz, bucket game, water race, and many other fun games were also arranged beside the on-stage performances, which kept the students engaged on the two days of the celebrations. The food festival featuring mouth-watering street foods added flavour to the already colourful festival.

Blood Donation Camp at SRM University-AP: Hundreds of Blood Donors Joined in the Noble Gesture
NSS Cell, Health Centre and the Directorate of Student Affairs of SRM University-AP, in Association with the Government Blood Bank, Guntur, conducted a Blood Donation Camp on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Mr S K Kareem, Deputy Transport Commissioner, Guntur, was the Chief Guest of the programme. The Guest of Honour of the event was Dr Prabhavathi, Superintendent, Government General Hospital, Guntur. Over 100 students and faculty members donated their blood at the camp.
The guests were welcomed to the university with mementoes and bouquets by the Vice Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Registrar of SRM University-AP. Mr S K Kareem lauded the significance of blood donors at a time when road accident rates are exponentially increasing. He also requested the Vice Chancellor of SRM AP to organise a road safety awareness programme for the students. “Enrol yourself in blood donor groups and be willing to donate your blood from time to time”, said Dr Prabhavathi as she explained the different occasions where sufficient availability of blood is indispensable.
Vice Chancellor of SRM AP, Prof. Manoj K Arora, motivated students to donate blood and, in addition, to do some research in the area. He stressed the importance of ensuring that the donated blood is being utilised at the right place. Prof. D Narayana Rao, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of SRM AP, highlighted the need for regular blood donation and applauded all the blood donors. At the same time, he discussed how blood donation benefits both the donor and the receiver. Dr R Premkumar, Registrar of SRM AP; Mr Anil Kumar Nigam, Director of Student Affairs; Ms Revathy Balakrishnan, Assistant Director of Student Affairs; Dr Ch Lakshmi Rajyam, Medical Officer of SRM AP; and Dr A Lakshmana Rao, NSS Coordinator of SRM AP was also present at the occasion. Students of Samaj Seva, an initiative of the Paari School of Business at SRM AP, volunteered to assist with the blood donation camp.

INFINITUS 2023: The Biggest Cultural Fiesta
The most anticipated three-day national-level cultural fest of SRM University-AP, INFINITUS 2023, has concluded at the varsity on Monday, April 24, 2023. Indian pop sensation Armaan Malik headlined the large-scale celebration with a live stage performance of his hit songs. Over 3000 attendees, including students from 5+ neighbouring universities, gathered for the festival that featured 50+ competitions across 9+ genres. The Directorate of Student Affairs of the university is organising such an illustrious event three years after the last cultural fest.
Lost Stories, the biggest dance music exports in India known for their Performances at Tomorrowland, Global Citizen Festival, Mysteryland, New Horizons festival, Electric Daisy Carnival, Sunburn, VH1 Supersonic etc.; Akshar, the Hyderabad-based rock band; and DJ night by DJ Kim were the other major attractions of the cultural fiesta. Multiple Western and Classical music and dance events, Theatre activities, Creative arts-related segments, Anime contests, Quiz competitions, E-Sports, Cubing, Lifestyle activities, and Photography contests were also part of the most anticipated three-day-long festival. Prizes were distributed to the winners of every competition.
INFINITUS 2023 was inaugurated with a balloon release on Saturday, April 22, 2023, by Prof. Manoj K Arora, Vice Chancellor of SRM University-AP. Pro-vice-chancellor Prof. D Narayana Rao, Registrar Dr R Premkumar, and other dignitaries were also present at the occasion. “Students are an integral part of any great university system. Be it a technical, sports, cultural, or business fest, at SRM University-AP, festivals are always by the students, for the students and from the students”, said Prof. Manoj K Arora as he addressed the gathering. He emphasised the importance of co-curricular activities and stressed that one must balance academics and co-curricular activities.
A cinematic launch of the event was screened and was received by the audience with great cheer and enthusiasm. G K V Manikanta, President-Student Council of SRM University-AP, expressed that he aspires to organise many more events that promote community inclusivity and service.
