Kavita Pandit

Kavita Pandit is Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs at Georgia State University.  She directs the Office of Faculty Affairs which supports and advances faculty throughout their career at the university.   Her office provides guidance on policies related to faculty recruitment, appointment, promotion, and tenure, offers faculty development workshops, organizes leadership programming for mid-career faculty and department chairs, and manages the nomination and selection process for university faculty awards.

Prior to her arrival at Georgia State, Dr. Pandit served as the Associate Provost for International Education at the University of Georgia. Her previous academic and administrative positions include Senior Vice Provost for the State University of New York, Associate Dean of University of Georgia’s Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, and head of the Department of Geography at the University of Georgia.

Pandit is a tenured professor in the Department of Geosciences at Georgia State University. Her academic interests are in the areas of population geography, migration, and economic development. She is a former president and fellow of the American Association of Geographers (AAG_.  Her recognitions include the Ron F. Abler Distinguished Service Award from the AAG, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Southeastern Division of the AAG, and the Sandy Beaver Award for Outstanding Teaching, from the University of Georgia.

Dr. Pandit was born and educated in Mumbai, India, earning a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Bombay University.  She has a masters degree in City and Regional Planning and a Ph.D. in Geography from the Ohio State University.
