Department of Journalism

One of the most exciting disciplines in SRM Amaravati happens to be Journalism, though comparatively a new avenue of study, its importance is not to be underestimated as it involves gathering current affairs, exposing existing problems and in some cases, bring out hushed social evils that exist and persist in the cloak of society. Being a field of study that is closely connected to the media, Journalism offers a road less travelled with much under the hood to be explored. 

Journalism draws on the conceptual and general aspects of a variety of academic disciplines including Communication, English, History, Journalism, Media Arts, Rhetoric and Writing.  Students will be required to complete SRM-AP's Core Requirements and take the Journalism Major Degree requirements. 

The Journalism Major promotes questioning, seeking, discovery, analysis, and understanding of a wide variety of academic disciplines. Students can pursue an Undergraduate course in Liberal Arts. A doctorate degree is also available to aspirants who wish to excel in a particular field of study in the multifaceted world of journalism – Tomorrow’s Journalists will learn how to be excellent communicators in writing, speaking and research.  They will know how to analyze news, historical events, international relations, science and the mass media in its many pervasive journalistic forms – research reports, journals, newspapers, television, film, radio, internet, social media, cyber-culture and various new media forms. Virtual People, Media Psychology and Advanced Topics in Human Virtual Representation are a few interesting options of minors to choose from.  

In addition, students will also pursue Foundation Courses and Minors across other departments within the School of Liberal Arts and Basic Sciences, thereby truly making it a well-rounded degree. 

As already indicated, working with close relations to media and its various forms of mass-communication enables a candidate pursuing this degree to work with news channels, host controversial shows and other responsibilities with the basic commitment of reaching important information to the masses and needless to say, a wide window of opportunities await you – The future journalist.
